Fantastic. Full marks to all concerned. The locals in town were friendly, the marquee with beer and live music was a fantastic idea. Apart from the obvious issues of planning, licencing, policing, etc etc etc with all the land we have, we should have one of these! The stewards were friendly, policing highly visible but unobtrusive. Catering in the ground ok, good view and a good atmosphere, with plenty of noise from the home end in spite of the result. I can't speak for anyone else but that was my favourite away day for a long time.
Agreed, brilliant day out. Result helped of course, but they're a club trying hard to keep improving. Good luck to them.
Totally agree. Can’t think of a friendlier club or set of fans I’ve ever been to. Great idea what they had on in the fanzone with both sets of fans singing away at “Don’t look back in anger”. Truly fantastic day and that was before the game started. It’s how football should be done and yet didn’t seem that hard to do. Great club, great fans and the stewards we’re first class with us all. Bravo Accrington bravo
The fan marquee was really good and there is no reason why we can't have our own but much bigger as would be needed for our crowds. Zackoustic was a smashing singer and super guitar player taking requests such as Sweet Caroline, Take Me Home and Mardy Bum. He even played the guitar to our Pottsy song. Did a mash up of Wonderwall backing to the Fresh Prince Of Bell Air lyrics. Two quid pints, 4-5 serving and pints pre pulled to get queue down really fast. Decent choice of well priced food, friendly staff and for just six portaloos the system worked. Home fans have no reason to spend their pre match hours out of town. Hope we get our own.
I too agree! Parked up near the ground and walked into the town for a pint. Never been to Accrington before and it is certainly a place that has seen better times. Chatted to locals in the Abbey Hotel. They were rugby league fans but were proud of what’s been happening at Stanley and they reckoned it was giving the town a lift. Looked in at the fanzone but didn’t spend much time there. In the ground the stewards were good humoured, seats had room to sit down!, good view and massive scoreboard (). Obviously it is a work in progress with portaloos and temporary access and continuing building works but clearly on the up. Enjoyed the match as well. Smith kept us level twice in the first few minutes which is a great start. He looked a bit dodgy on high balls though. Apart from unnecessary diving from a couple of their players I thought they tried to play football. Must be the smallest midfield in the league though. Tight first half but thought we just about deserved the lead. Second half we were excellent. Unlucky not to score more. We were even better when down to ten men! I know they were pushing on but we still pressed them and were in control. Kiefer Moore was dead on his feet but kept going and I’m pleased he got the goal. Great atmosphere, especially last half hour. I neither saw nor heard any bad stuff from our fans and even had a pleasant exchange with a steward on the way out. Thouroughly enjoyable day.
You can’t help but like Accrington Stanley and admire their chairman and what he and the team has done for the town. It’s an excellent story and I’m sure that everyone wishes them all the best. It would be great to see them promoted to the Championship in an era where the gap between the haves and the have nots is so vast. The fanzone was fairly rudimentary but it’s an excellent idea. My personal favourite was the “Post Match £1 Pint (depending on the result)” banner.
I totally agree. Never had the stewards take me to my seat in a football ground before! The drum in the home end was doing my head in a bit so I was glad when we scored! 100 times more atmosphere than at the Ricoh arena.
Brilliant day out, great atmosphere & a great result. I thought Rochdale was a bit of an eye opener at league one level but this was one step further. Fair play to them, getting top half League One football on the tiny budget they must have is superb. Love to see them somehow get up as long as it’s not at our expense. I can see why they’re difficult to beat at home as well, that pitch is tiny.
Strange lot on here. One minute nobody needs match day experience, no scoreboard, just watch the football then go home. And today everybody wants it to be like Accrington.
100% agree. From start to finish their hospitality was outstanding. Proper football club. From the turnstile lady who said "enjoy your game love" to every fan, right down to the stewards who were the politest I've ever come across (one of them shook my hand at the end of the game and wished us luck) .....a truly memorable experience. They welcomed us to their home and I wish them all the best for the rest of the season.
Didn't see you there mark. A great day out.....we had a few idiots around us bad mouthing the stewards and their fans. Tasteless, unnecessary and disrespectful. Idiots boozed up.
Ye the woman checking the tickets was asking every individual person how they were, couldn’t believe it.
Thank you all for your feedback. The turnstile operators are volunteers as I am. June is well known to away fans. Once an away fan ,returning one season, gave her a box of chocolates!
Great day, mentioned a fanzone a coupla year ago on here, cant agree with seating thought it was far too narrow for my arse which isn`t too rotund. On game front ref was toss as per usual, enjoyable game, deserved win and another mention for McGeehan who has slotted in well despite a lot of worry on here abart losing Dougall and not hevvin anyone to replace him.
Feel free to return to this board, before the reverse fixture, for advice on parking, where to eat, drink etc. A warm welcome awaits ( though sadly no fan zone ) Well done and thank you.
fantastic away day , great match , agree the ref was not very good and influenced by the opposition players hence Zekis sending off , good bit of acting from the injured party , but we should be used to this , its about time we had a permanent outfield captain who can speak to the ref when the need arises especially when the ref is being bombarded by the opposition ,had a walk into Town and the memorials and info benches were very interesting ,the mural on the shopfronts of the Accrington Pals who fought on the somme (they lost 600 out of 800 men ) and were followed into battle by the Barnsley Pals Battlion . its a pity our council doesn't do similar to show respect for our fallen
