There is the argument about conscription into an "EU Army" - as many EU countries do have that. However, the same people that object to conscription into the "EU Army" are often those that are most in favour of conscription into the British Armed Forces. Nobody complains when the British Army is deployed within the UK - for instance after the flooding 3-4 years ago, or after terrorist attacks. The "EU Army" could easily be deployed in the same manner - to help alleviate natural disasters or in response to a security incident - it might have been useful in the aftermath of the Paris or Nice attacks for instance.
Sixteen pages into this thread and nearly two years into brexit and I still can't get curvy bananas in the shops. Or was it straight?? I forget but I'm sure when it happens it will make up for the total fecking chaos we're going through.
Completely agree. Armies are deployed for many reasons, and I can't see this as anything more than fearmongering to create anti EU sentiment. Just like the 80m turks (despite failing every EU ascension test) and the 34m Bulgarians (despite having a population of 7m!)
but most eu countries have their own military that can be deployed in these circumstances,so why the need for a eu army troops can even be deployed via NATO,we are already covered for any of these events some countries are very reluctant to pay up towards NATO as it is and many do not contribute what nato asked for which is 2% of GDP,the main instigators behind the eu army(france, germany, belgium) all fall below what was asked for,Germany contribute a little over 1% of their gdp despite boasting about their own economy being so good and having a large trade surplus, what makes anyone think these countries will be any different if they get their eu wide army up and running.
What a ridiculous statement. Despite the point you are crudely attempting to make. The bottom line is the same old, “leavers = stupid”. Based upon that thick mate you heard, and a biased national press. Not all leavers were stupid. As such, not all remainers were afraid of their own shadow. There are facts and stretched truths on both sides of this argument. But most people are so entrenched in the view of being right or wrong, that they refuse anything said by the other party.
I've seen nothing in any of the top level Leavers - Farage, Johnson, Gove, Raab, Davis etc to indicate that they have any idea of how to conduct an ordered Brexit that would not have put this country in the **** for 20+ years. They are simple men with simple ideas, who think the world is simple and has simple solutions. It isn't, it is highly complex and required intricate skills and ideas. As we have seen, they are simply not up for the job and have left it for others to deal with, as far as we can tell, EU negotiators and lawyers.
To be honest I’ve seen nothing from top level remainers either to instil confidence in them being anything but whipping boys, putting us in the .... for 20+ years.
A symptom I'm afraid of exporting competency to the EEC/EC/EU these last 40 years. Those who deign to run our lives in the UK have become nothing more than administrators, signing off and nodding through European legislation, and gradually making the Uk subordinate to EU law. Thus extraditing from that 40 years of entanglement is indeed complex and awkward - who'd have thought it though ? Because we've been told it's just about trade whne in fact it's about a supranational government and no UK politician has the foggiest what to do - they're happy being subordinate because they don't have to think. Well now they do and we're ****** into a cocked hat. This reset will take years, and it's telling that people like Roland Smith who articulated an orderly and sensible leave policy are not invited onto mainstream British media - we just get the 2 dimensional untrustworthy soundbite idiots. Richard & Peter North whilst a bit more fiery are also well versed in international trade know more about the intricacies of the Single Market than any politician - but then again we never get to hear from them - it's all about immigration and numbers on a bus. The British public have been lied to and the truth hidden for decades, and when a backlash comes it gets hijacked by absolute cnuts because we've dumbed society down to such a level that we can only deal in the binary.
Sending an idiot to an expensive school does not magically make them intelligent, just confident idiots.
Love people bairning because as they were told from the start the EU hold the cards. They have no sensible plan for leaving. Our govt is worse than incompetent and EU negotiatiors are miles ahead of ours. As they say get over it you won.
The whole thing is a case of political vandalism caused by the elitist old school (Little Englanders) Eton educated in the Conservative Party who will not be affected by the aftermath - Cameron tried it on and it backfired. Reece Mogg , Boris Johnson and their cronies pushed the cause, and the spivs like Farage (cos that's all he is ,new money made in the 80's created by Thatcher as she and her party decimated the industrial North) sold the myth to the ill informed masses. The worrying part is Jeremy Corbyn (eu sceptic) and the Labour Party going along with it and not being risky or radical enough in their opposition to how this is being played out. The people who will take the hardest hit (many of who voted for it) are going to be the least well off and vulnerable in society (as usual).
