I’m an ifollow subscriber but it always says I can’t get the video of the game due to viewing restrictions. Does anyone know what I need to do to watch the game?
There should be no problem today - have you logged on to iFollow and clicked on the watch match live - it should ask you to pay an extra £10 and then once you do it should work. Can you get the audio commentary?
I can get audio commentary and I can watch all other videos. I’ve tried on my phone and two different iPads but every time I click the link I get the message about rights restrictions
You need to click subscribe again, and it should give you the option. Nonsense, but there you go. I think it should be obvious by this point that the club doesn't care at all about the experience of long distance fans !
I’m not even long distance. I’m a season ticket holder and live in Barnsley. It won’t let me subscribe. When I click on subscription it shows me as subscribed until 5th December 2018
I had the same problem today. The ifollow site/software is a bit crap from a user experience point of view. I fixed it by going here and subscribing first for the match. https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/ifollow/subscribe/ I think the error message is misleading, its probably supposed to say you arent subscribed and then ask you to do so. Unfortunately, it wasn't doing that for me and I got the same error
Yeah I’m thinking it’s not worth persevering now with us two nil down. Still bloody frustrating though!
It's not the club though, and that's certainly not the case speaking as someone who was a long distance fan for a long time, it's iFollow and they have little or no influence on them as they are contracted by the EFL.
I understand that they're not providing the service directly to me, but I run a business and if a contract I enter into doesn't provide a service to my customers that I'm happy with (and which matches the quality of the one I provide directly) then I change it. It's the same thing with the food and drink in the stadium. Several clubs in the football league don't use ifollow, so it's evidently not something we've got to do. If it's badged as a Barnsley FC service then I think the club should be on it. At the very least they should be lobbying the company that does provide that service on behalf of us lowly fans.
It's not something we have to do but going it alone is pretty expensive so the iFollow offering is a no-brainer (Derby spent, IIRC ,spent 1million quid on their streaming setup). On top of that, their would be costs for building, hosting and maintaining websites, content management systems, DRM , mobile apps etc not to mention the fact its a contract they are tied into for a number of years. Unfortunately, the clubs (not just Barnsley) have not had a great deal of luck in changing the platform and I know they have tried. I know that clubs got together to try and rectify some of this at the annual EFL meeting they have. For example, the ridiculously expensive and complicated commentary situation that iFollow wanted the clubs to sign up for last season (involving sitting a second commentator in a van outside the stadium for live video commentaries at considerable additional cost). Lack of commentary on replays etc. Clearly, they are getting some changes made now.
