Well he can't play the race card anymore (until he gets sacked). I hope he's a success there. Not enough former players in management, that had the career he had as a player. The players can't help but learn from him. Good to see him join others like Lampard, Gerrard and Barton in giving it a go, when they don't need the cash.
It's different in this case. Sol has been playing the race card for years, while also saying he "doesnt want to drop down too far" and generally acting like an entitled *****.
Thank **** for that. Hopefully he will lose the big chip on his shoulder. Wouldn’t want him here that’s for sure
I'm a 40 something white male. Is pointing out the fact that despite black players making up a significant proportion of the profession and the vast majority of professional managers being former players, yet there are very few black managers playing the race card? I don't think it is.
Couple of Macc fans in the office here. It’s the moment they’ve been dreading. Not happy would be an understatement.
No. But saying its because of rscism and blaming that for you not getting a job is. Fact. The majority of black players in this country were until recently foreign. That explains straight away quite a lot of the disparity.
These are clubs who can pick the very best managers from anywhere in the world. They very rarely take a punt on an inexperienced manager so yu cannot label them as racist for not hiring an inexperienced black guy as a manager when thry dont hire inexperienced white guys either. Sol campbell says he thought he had to go abroad to become a manager solely because of his skin colour. That means he accepts thst other countries srent racist like us. So where are all the top black managers abroad? Campbell has actually had a bit of experience in managing. He went to trinidad to coach with two black former (foreign) players and went to america to watch a third black (foreign) player manage a team. Barnsley has had thousands of players in eecent years. How many of them are now managers in England?
There were articles like this: https://www.skysports.com/football/...-in-football-after-being-overlooked-by-oxford It turned a lot of people against him. He didn't actually blame it on his race, looking back at it, so I apologise for insinuating he did while defending dreamboy. I definitely remember others blaming that on his behalf, however.
"There are no opportunities for me here, not until attitudes change anyway. Everyone has to ask themselves why there are not more black managers in this country. I've spoken to other black players who want to coach and they feel the same, that attitudes here are archaic" - Sol Campbell 2013 (He didnt have the required qualifications to be a football manager in England when he made the claim)
From BBC sport. New manager Sol Campbell has told Macclesfield that in him they have "an international footballer" who has been "one of the best players in the world". The ex-England defender, 44, was appointed by League Two's bottom club on Tuesday to replace Mark Yates. Campbell watched from the stands as the Silkmen beat Exeter later that day for only their third league win this term. "Macclesfield fans will probably say 'what's going on here?'" he said when asked if his appointment was a gamble. "You've got an international footballer who has been one of the best footballers in the world coming to your club, I think there's a nice mutual balance there."
Then is it not also fair to point out that the black population is 3.5% but about 20% of players are black, so there is actually a large over-representation of black players, for some reason this never gets brought up by the SJW/ race warrior crowd. Campbell is also a Tory, I thought we hated Tories on here? Or is it only white Tories we hate?
I am sure he was at Notts county at the same time as Sven goran Erickson & both were brought in to reserect a failing club , however it ended up being a farse , which did nothing to enhance his reputation.
Precisely. I think he will struggle at that level because, and I could be wrong, I think he's arrogant and a little self entitled and will struggle with players that only have a fraction of his ability. It will be a big shock to him.
I hope he's successful, I've got a bit of time for Macclesfield having go to know the son of Frank Beaumont well over the last few years, Frank being a former red and Macclesfield player and manager. I'm not convinced by Campbell and I suspect thst in reality he will struggle, but I will give him credit for going in at the bottom. I'd like to see more managers start out down the pyramid, with Nigel Clough and Martin O'Neill being the best examples perhaps. Too many take an easy, often bankrolled, option and make money and have transient success, but never really learn how to manage.
