Not been today so those who have will know much more but looking at team sheet today signing some proper wingers HAS to be a priority IMO.

We had Moncur who is primarily a attacking number 10 on one wing and Bahre on other who I don't know where his best position is from what I have seen.

Then off the bench Thiam comes on, we are seriously lacking a proper pacey winger that can run past people and get a ball into box. Moore and Woodrow could score far more if we had some actual good service from wings.

Wouldn’t play with wingers if we had any width. These foreign managers are clueless!English football play a Emnglish game!

We had Hammill but the club decided that he was surplus to requirements. Bad decision.

Now we have Hedges and Isgrove who are both prone to injury.

Don't think Hammill is the answer, though must admit he would be a better option than Bahre. Injuries to Izzy and Hedges are bad luck but becoming all too regular now. For me we need an out and out pacey winger, hammill isn't a bad player but not got the pace we need for me.

    Oh the irony.

I actually agree we would be more effective with wingers, but people seem to forget England won a World Cup without any. It’s hardly unEnglish to use more centrally suited players out wide.

Besides, we could sign anyone in the world and he’d still play Bahre.

England use wingers now though following world cup.

I don't mind him playing Bahre, just not on the wing, we need pace there

Just my opinion but I think Hammill is exactly what we need in this league. Not only because he would be a better, more reliable option than our current wingers but also because of the experience he has - something else we're desperately in need of.

So was it the management that didnt fancy hammill?? Or was it a money/contact issue from higher up??

Someone on twitter reckons it’s cos we wouldn’t pay him the 8k a week he was on and he would have to have accepted 2k a week to stay this season.

I know that stendell went to his house (think everyone does) and a contract was offered.
I heard rhis was not to adams likinig...i then hear Hecky was going to take him to Bradford and he did train with them (2 weeks?) but obviously didnt get the job.
He had other offers...some wanted him to go to a trial!!!.....he has ended up where he has and it is very hard on his family...theyi are very settled here and would love to stay in the area.
I do believe that he would re discuss terms in jan.....if we offered him somerhing..even if its to yhe end of the season.
Imho.....what have we got to lose?
We did sign the experienced centre back from forest last jan...on a similar basis (admittingly that didnt work) no harm done if it doesnt quite work out....we have worse players on the books...get the experience of hammill and a cental midfielder in (minimum) if we are serious about promtion.........

    Wingers.
I think someone said we need 5 wingers.

At the moment we have Isgrove and Brown who can play on the wing.
IMO Hedges is more of a central striker
Isgrove is probably the only player we have that can beat a defender and put a good cross into the centre - but as others have said he’s injury prone.

And as people have pointed out - we have plenty of options for attacking midfielders.
But we haven’t many opinions for defensive midfielders and wide (wingers) midfielders.

    Early days for Stendel.
He’s still getting used to England and the English game.
    He’s inherited a team - it’s not his team.
He hasn’t had time yet to assess what players he needs for a full season.

No doubt he is better than what we have fit at the moment, but as soon as hedges and Izzy are fit I would rather play those as they have more pace which for me we lack.

I think we desperately need to sign at least 1 winger in Jan but personally would aim for someone with pace and younger. We all saw last season that Hammill wasn't good enough for Championship and ultimately the aim of the board and management team is to get the club back there so I would prefer to go out and get some one else in but that's my opinion.

Last season we saw a full team that weren't good enough, it wasn't just Hammill. I believe he is a free agent again in January. We could do a lot worse than offering him a six month deal.

Do you honestly think the powers that be would try to get him back and thereby admit it might have been a mistake to let him go.
