https://barnsleyfccommunity.co.uk/health/fit-reds-programme/ Whose done it? Did you enjoy it? Did you make the most of it? Would you recommend it? Is there much team activity?
They get between 50-60 every Thursday night. Really good set up and have made life changing differences to folk. Don’t be thinking it’s just a load of fat blokes running around - it’s not. It’s about getting over 35s off the settee and back into some sort of fitness and having great banter with similar mind folks. It’s about attitude and not ability - doesn’t matter if you’re Messi or Dave Regis, you’ll fit in. No pressure on you at all. Get joined up!
I’ve done it about 3 years ago and can definitely recommend it. Did some really interesting stuff about health aspects and also a bit of circuit training followed by some team football. Met some great people there too. Go for it, you won’t regret it.
OK Dub-Tyke, I exaggerate. I tackled it at 54 and felt that I was lucky to dip out without an 'incident'! It's a grand programme, but I felt that there wasn't quite enough allowance for those of an elderly (to say nothing of portly) disposition!
True, but if you're like many soft lads (me included) your own competitiveness urges you to go further than you should!
You should be fine indoor. However, if you don’t feel it, sign up for Walking Football. There’s a session at Honeywell which Jake (same PT) runs. Any age over 35 can play, but it’s mainly over 50s I’d say. Much trickier than you might think and certainly a good laugh.
Oldest fit red vet is now 66 or 67. You can join the veterans after you have completed the course I did it 6 year's ago and still go on a regular basis. I would definitely recommend it.
I attend every week, it’s the best night of the week. Best thing i ever did ! Great set of lads good social aspects too all abilities welcome. The vets motto (what you become after the 8 week programme) is Attitude is more important than Ability. I’m 46 many are older and i’m Overweight due to back issues ( just had an op 4 months ago so was inactive), however i lost a stone and a half in the 8 weeks 4 years ago. Give it a go
Was ok back in 2007 when darren England and carl and luke fudge used to run it in the astroturf building.
