No wonder people want technology to take over football.

How can a referee not see this blatant dive?

Very much doubt VAR would overturn that.

Everything wrong with modern football that any fan accepts that kind of behaviour even from its own players.

I don't make a habit of arguing in defence of a referee but these players must be held accountable. A ref can only do so much but when players cheat so blatantly then something has to be done to help referees. Start punishing players and managers if necessary and keep increasing the severity of the punishment until cheating is forced out of the game.

I don't think it was a pen just what I have seen of VAR because there was some contact I don't think they would overturn it.

It’s a penalty, the guy puts his hand on him and he goes down “as if he’s been pulled” shall we say.

VAR would not have overturned it but the ref could have easily said no penalty in real time and booked him for diving.

One of those that’s so soft it’s a bit of a piss take but it’s the modern game, I don’t agree with it for one minute but managers have been telling players to go down now for ages in that position.

In your opinion. Ive no problem with the arguement he cheated to win a penalty but it’s still a penalty because the ref gave one and var would have confirmed it.

as above the ref could easily have not given given it.

    I'd say it's a foul and a dive.

It’s a foul & a deserved penalty. Don’t get me wrong Salah’s reaction is pathetic but Dummett’s an idiot there for having a pull at him.

It’d be nice if a ref could give the penalty but still book Salah for diving.

A lot of the time players only make slight fouls in the hope that a referee will not have the bottle to give the penalty. On this occasion the referee had the bottle to give it so fair play to him.

What's wrong with giving a penalty and then booking players who display extreme histrionics getting a yellow for 'bringing the game into disrepute'. I can't see any contradictions with that. After all they are allowed to book players for excessive goal celebrations

I just don’t think they’d be able to do it through the laws. Wish they could

    Agree with that
Its a foul minimal contact not enough to make him go down but a definite foul ,
Refs don't give them if they don't go down and that's why the dramatics in this case not to fool the ref but to emphasise a foul.
Managers tell them to go down as soon as they feel contact especially in the box .
In this instance justice was done IMO but many more go unpunished .
Its a very fine margin in real play and difficult ones even for var never mind a ref .
Some decisions by fefs are so blatant and these are the ones need investigating not being clogged up with these decisions imo

I don't get the "emphasising the foul" argument. All simulation/exaggeration should be a booking. In that case give the pen but book Salah as well.
