He's a poundshop Shakespearian actor every night, Is our Geoff. Superb entertainment. And if the right words came out of his mouth, he'd be unstoppable.

Grayling is the worst politician, probably ever. Never mention his name again, unless it be regarding his obituary.

Won’t matter either way stand him, Diane and companytogether and no way is the majority of the country going to vote for them.
Like I said before any half decent opposition should be able to takedown this government piss easy, absolutely no doubt.

    My MPs reply to me

Thank you for contacting me about the UK’s withdrawal from the European Union, and the vote on Theresa May’s Brexit deal.

I understand this is a very important issue facing our community and country which many people feel strongly about. I appreciate you making your thoughts known to me, and I wanted to let you know why I voted against the Prime Minister’s deal.

To be clear, I respect the result of the referendum in 2016, and I do not support another referendum. We’ve already held a People’s Vote, and the views of people here in Barnsley were clear. So for me the current debate around Brexit is not about whether we leave the EU, but how.

I’ve been very clear throughout this process that any Brexit deal must guarantee the jobs, rights and protections that so many people here in Barnsley rely on. It must ensure that workplace and environmental protections are safeguarded, and it must respect the views of the people of Barnsley, expressed through the referendum in 2016.

Unfortunately, the Prime Minister’s deal doesn’t do any of these things. It’s a bad deal for people here in Barnsley, and a bad deal for our country. It doesn’t safeguard hard-won rights and protections, and it keeps us locked into EU rules with no say in shaping them. That’s why I voted against this deal.

However, I also believe that we cannot leave with No Deal, which would be catastrophic for people here in Barnsley - something that has become increasingly obvious, particularly after speaking to local businesses in our community. I’ll do all I can to ensure this doesn’t happen.

This position – voting against Theresa May’s deal, opposing a second referendum, and opposing No Deal – was supported by a large majority of respondents to my recent Brexit survey.

So, in my role as the MP for Barnsley East, I’m pushing for a better Brexit deal as we leave the EU, one which works for people here in Barnsley, which guarantees jobs, rights, and living standards, and honours the result of the 2016 referendum.

Following the Government’s defeat, the Prime Minister now has three days to come back to Parliament with a plan for how the Government intends to proceed.

I’ll continue to bear your thoughts and views in mind at this time, and I’ll make sure I keep you updated as the situation progresses. In the meantime, be assured I am pushing for the best possible outcome for the people of Barnsley East.

    Yours sincerely,

    Stephanie Peacock MP
Member of Parliament for Barnsley East

In fairness can't argue with that, she has responded quickly and frankly and reflects the democratic views in so far as they are known of her constituents

Can't fault her. Her reply shows she cares for the views of her Constituents.

Hee hee. No good hoping he gets hit by a train, it would most likely be cancelled. Or fall off one of his ferries, he's employed a shipping company that doesn't have any. If Cox is a shakesperian actor, grayling is the court jester

So she wants something the EU have said won’t happen? This is the deal or no deal. Oh well, not long to sort it out... or not.

Hard to argue with the worst PM ever - first PM ever to have her government found to be in contempt of Parliament and now sets an all time record for scale of defeat, not of any bill but of the most important bill of her career. and any other PM in history would be resigning in the morning but not May - I expect she will survive the no confidence vote and then what

The deal would be bad for the people and businesses of Barnsley? Yes she’s right.

No deal would be bad for the people and businesses of Barnsley? Yep, right again.

The problem being that she’s saying she respects the wishes of her constituents - but knows full well she will never be able to back any deal we get as there won’t be one which would be beneficial on her terms. (To be fair she has a duty to protect her constituents, here she’s protecting them from themselves a bit).

I might be being harsh but I read between the lines of her thoughts and conclude that she just thinks that the people of Barnsley (and donny, Rotherham, all such similar places who voted out) got it wrong and we need to stop it happening.

I agree with her on folk getting it wrong, bloody ridiculous decision - but it’s not her or my place to question it - folk had a choice. Whether they made the decision in more or less complete ignorance as to the realities and consequences or not. Not many seem to have changed their minds.

I really don’t see how this could possibly end up being sorted beneficially. I voted remain - doesn’t mean I don’t believe in democracy. I don’t think it would have been the best outcome, to stay would have been better IMO, but with leave having won, there should have been a cross party team of politicians, backed by social, economic and industrial experts thrashing out what we required and negotiating with the eu to get it done cleanly and in the best possible way. Serve the country together like educated adults. But no. Up stepped Mrs May.

Having decided she knew best, having thrown herself into power unelected and then bizarrely failing to win the election she self-servingly changed the law to hold, then showing herself to have no ability to negotiate whatsoever, May has right-royally ****** up any chance we might have had of getting any kind of credible divorce deal.

She is completely bulletproof to any kind of criticism, her own party held a confidence vote she got through just about, the opposition have tabled a no-confidence motion against her government which again she’ll likely scrape through; she’s disliked by most of the country on either side of the Brexit debate and for all manner of reasons due to the state of the nhs, welfare and schools. She doesn’t give a flying ****, water off a ducks back.

She’s taking this country down in the name of keeping herself in power, in full knowledge that her and her husband’s wealth will mean they are fine no matter what state the country ends up in.

Whatever happens now, the shitshower will pour on and the mess get wider, deeper and filthier.

So where do we go from here. Teresa May and a few of her ministers have managed to take a split country and at least unite them on one thing - the Deal she has put together with no consultation with anyone - based on her own "red lines" isnt the Brexit anyone wants.
With a laughable stroke of Irony she has complained that the rebels have said what they dont want but havent said what they do support.

She will win tomorrows No confidence vote and then what
The EU have made it clear they will not re-negotiate without something fundamental happening - not a great surprise they have offered the best deal they reasonably could given Mays Red lines on leaving the Single Market, The Customs Union, ending free movement and the European court.

So as things stand we are on a convetor belt and will cease to be an EU member on 29 March with no deal - something that clearly has no majority in parliament, and probably not the country. There is certainly no mandate for it as leaving with no deal was never part of the leave campain

The only other option is to revoke Article 50 which also doesnt have much of a mandate - though May and Davies amongst others have past form in ignoring close referendum results.

So with a split country and split party some sensible cross party dialog and consensus should have been reached before even starting to trigger Article 50 - that would have also had the advantage of skipping an election and giving a huge influence to a reactionary minority Irish party. Now its too late

Odds are now we will finish with either no deal and that will be a disaster - Chris Grayling, Rees Mogg and Davis says it wont so that should be proof enough.
    or
we will revoke A50 which will cause a whole other set of problems

Maybe we will get a peoples vote - though what questions should be on the paper is anyones guess - but bearing in mind a badly thought out referendum got us into this mess in the first place I have no confidence that a rushed one to cover politicians arses will get us out of it

Maybe A50 will be extended - but I am not sure why the EU would agree to that - May keeps kicking the can down the road - sooner or later that has to stop - we would need a good justification to extend A50 and I dont see that coming from a May government

A few days after the refendum result there was a headline in the Daily Mash which asked the question how do we unfcuk this - that question has got even more pertinent

Whilst I agree with much of what you said previously about May's lack of competence, the last comment is possibly unfair...she has already said she will not contest the next election so the future reins of power have effectively been relinquished.
This deal was actually pretty close to Labour's six ( boll***s, as Barry Gardiner said ) tests....and would have left us closer to the EU than the ERG wanted, I am surprised (or perhaps not) that more Labour MP's or Remain Tories did not feel able to support it....had this vote come after a failed vote of no confidence I think more of our local MP's would have gone for it rather than risk the no deal exit that beckons.

You have got that exactly right Troff. There's a piece on a BBC website that allows you to establish
how your MP voted. I tapped Stephanie Peacock into the search facility and it showed that she voted
against Theresa May's deal last night, but in the text it also says that prior to the referendum, she was
very much in favour of remaining in the EU and could therefore be classed as anti-Brexit. Unlike some
MP's who are similarly inclined and are going against the wishes of the majority vote, at least Ms Peacock
appears to be trying to deliver what her Constituents said they wanted to happen as a result of the referendum.

May was ****** either way. She knows full well that the only part of the Brexit Deal that the the majority of those who voted leave care about is 'sending them back', but she obviously can't produce a deal based on the racism of said people.

If you ask the majority of people who voted leave why they voted leave you get a mess of cliches and slogans such as 'taking back control' and 'British people first'.

So she has had to dress up her proposition behind a load of proposals that make nobody happy because LEAVE MEANS LEAVE AND THE REMOANERS DONT LIKE LOSING.

Farage, Robinson and those cap ends who wear the yellow vests have basically ruined the country and given a platform to people with a BTEC in Leisure Studies to hide behind the notion that 'they come here taking our jobs'.

    --

For clarity I'm not a May supporter at all - she's an odious liar.
