Luton must have the smallest seats and the least legroom in the entire league, like sitting on primary school chairs.
Exiting old Millmoor use to be a scary experience my feet never touched the ground up that narrow track behind away end.
Agree that a great many of the old grounds were desperate places but I agree with Stephen Dawson that when it was on its last legs Belle Vue was the worst of the lot. Portacabin executive boxes at one end and smashed up toilet block at the other. I shudder at the memory.
Whilst Donny's Belle Vue stands weren't the greatest, the pitch was very good. I played on it a couple of times, once in a Doncaster Sunday League Cup Final and during a trial for the Club when I was in my teens. Prior to the fire and its redevelopment, Bradfords Valley Parade was archaic as was the home of Port Vale re- Vale Park.
The Shay did indeed have a speedway track around it...and would get my vote .... Marines ground maybe could come into the running too... but they can be excused due to being non league and me having one too many sherberts that day
A pickpocket's paradise, that was. One of my old bosses had his wallet taken from his inside cost pocket somewhere along that track in the crush. Vetch Field was the worst view I ever had, League Cup 1981. Pokey away section with little or no elevation and a mesh screen to keep us in our place. I felt like a battery hen.
Yes, was very scary at a league cup match there that we lost, even though Peter Springett saved 2 penalties.
Coventry's for total lack of atmosphere. When we play there I'd find it more cheerful to sit in Carlton graveyard and listen to it ont wireless.
