Jailed for 3 months for perverting the course of justice after a retrial. In the spirit of parliamentary crockery, she retains her position and gets paid whilst inside. Members of the local constituency are not too happy about it! One rule for them and another for us as I understand the legal guideline is 4 to 36 months.
Not for long: Anyone know why she only got 3 months when her brother got 10? Wouldn't it have been she who made the false statement on the NIP?
If she had received sentence of a year or more, she would have had to resign from being an MP. If less than that - which it is - then if more than 7,000 of the Peterborough electorate sign up to a recall petition, that will trigger a by-election. She is a solicitor, too, would you believe!!
Regardless of her occupation I would have given longer a longer sentence as she was apparently texting whilst driving! That in itself is worthy of a jail term to me regardless of circumstance although, I do not believe it currently it carries a custodial sentence. It should IMO.
They did it more than once. Her name was on the NIP first time round, his the second time. The frustrating part is that her brother admitted it and got a much longer sentence than this evil cow who continued to plead not guilty despite all the evidence against her. She cost the tax payer money, she has shown no remorse, she continues to lie and pretend she didn't do it and yet she gets a sentence below the minimum recommended for her crimes
Confused by this... "An MP has become the first sitting politician in nearly three decades to be jailed after she lied to police when she was issued with a speeding ticket." I thought 4 MPS inc. Eric Ilsley were jailed in 2011 for expenses fraud. Or are we playing semantics if they had resigned by the time they were sentenced since the offences occurred whilst they were sitting MPs.
Chris Huhne MP was sentenced to 8 months when he and his wife did similar over a speeding offence. He was out in 9 weeks. He also resigned his position before the trial started.
It's not semantics. They all resigned whilst she is too selfish, evil and morally corrupt to do so and so she is the first in a long time to be locked up whilst sitting as an MP.
Ah ! That makes sense. W1zz pointed out Chris Huhne got 8 months and was out in 9 weeks. On that basis she will be out by end of February. Again, texting whilst driving should warrant a long sentence !
I think but stand to be corrected in tje last 10 years its 9 labour a lib and a couple.of tories have all ended up doing bird.
Wait u Could well be a fair few Tories facing it in the next few years. Misconduct in a Public Office currently carries a life sentence...
