Looked completely off the pace, seems like we made the right call at the right time. Will go down as a hero but definitely no room for him in this team. Fingers crossed that now puts the "bring him home" argument to bed.
If he was still here ............ We would now be 10 points clear. A player that is currently playing for a much worst team - but would have absolutely killed off our opponents if still playing for us ...... especially with Moore and Woodrow just sat sat sat waiting in the middle for someone - any fooker - to deliver a decent cross. BAD BAD decision by these new owners to let him go.
Let's not forget that at the time we let him go, our wing options were Thiam - who spent a full season getting to status of "average" , Isgrove and Hedges who were injury prone. In the time since, Hammill has had to travel hundreds of miles to play football, whereas Thiam has been fortunate to get a run of games to bring him into the form we are now seeing. At the time, I think reds fans who questioned the decision, had every right to. We move on.
I knew someone would get on this bandwagon but really can you tell one way or the other on the basis of 60 minutes in a team who were totally outplayed? Let's be honest we were much better man for man in every position, not just Adam's and, on today's showing, none of their eleven are good enough for ours. But that doesn't mean to say that Adam wouldn't have been an asset in the squad and great to have round the club helping the young players. We'll never know but most of us have moved on.
[ A decision that's been ultimately vindicated though, can you honestly say during any part of this season that we've missed him?
I don't know, and neither do you. Who knows, we could have been 6 points clear at the top of the league had Hammill stayed, trained with the squad all summer and started the season?? All I'd say is that Thiam took forever and a day to warm up. I know he scored 2 Vs Oxford, but I feel we carried him in many games up to Christmas. I'm glad we've stuck with it, as it seems to be finally paying dividends. He's a lucky boy though, because not many players get the luxury of 12 months + to come good.
He's playing in a poor scunny side who were playing one of the best teams in the league today. If he was in our side I think he would look better with better players around him. Would he be a better option off the bench than Hedges or Moncur before he left? I'd be inclined to say yes. That said he doesn't fit in with our model and I fully understand the reasons behind not keeping him. Nice he got the applause today from the Oakwell crowd, we have both moved on and I wish him well.
We have a good display against a much worst team. And we then abuse and tear into an absolute legend of this football club. Does anyone seriously think the Adam Hammill of Scun.thorpe actually believe that it would be the same Adam Hammill of Barnsley that we saw just a few months ago. Again again again......... some really short memories on here.
Do you just wait to see the general direction of the comments and then take the opposite view? Just what sort of juvenile fuc&ing mid-set is that?
I don't think that decision can be fairly made without considering he was playing out of position today in a much poorer side than ours. For the record I don't think he'd displace Thiam, but having him as an option would be more benefit than harm.
