Another new member thread. Just registered after a long while of browsing to get an idea of how we're doing, because I don't get to go to nearly as many games as I should do these days. First game was WBA at home in 1990 (the season they beat us 7-0 after Clarke was sacked), which had one of those rare events of us scoring a late equaliser, think it was 2-2 with a Carl Tiler own goal, but my memory gets worse by the day!
A warm welcome bud. Look forward to hearing your views. I attended the WBA game. Complete nightmare. Clarkey was our manager when I first started watching the Reds and he gave us some great memories. Attendances and expectations were low back then, but what endeared my then 12 year old son and myself to the Club was the feeling that we were joining an " extended" family and unlike Leeds, Wednesday or the Blades ( all of whom we went to watch before settling at Oakwell) you could go to the office and ask to speak to Michael Spinks, the then Secretary and he would come out and have a chat. A mate at my works wife was a big Wednesdayite. The year they got relegated there was an image on the Sunday's Yorkshire TV football show showing her sat in her seat at the end of the game and she was sobbing her heart out. I knew Wednesdays then Secretary who had been one of my business suppliers and my co-worker asked if I could arrange a tour of Hillsborough with a chance for her to meet the players to try and cheer her up. I made contact and was told in no uncertain terms, that if they did that for her, they would have to do it for everybody, so my request was turned down. The next season she and my mate who both lived in Barnsley ,started supporting the Reds instead. I was pleased see them enjoying a beer in the East stand at last seasons home game against Villa.
