Here are the questions I'm going to send over to the club today for the meeting tomorrow evening: What was the motivation for buying Barnsley Football Club? How do you measure success? Does it come down to P&L? Do you have a five-year plan? What can you share in that respect? What have you learned from the situation at Nice? What will you do differently at Barnsley to ensure there isn't a split between fans, directors, and shareholders? Given that the Championship is full of clubs which benefit from Premier League parachute money, and other clubs with rich owners who are chasing the dream, what alternative strategies are there to simply survive there and then go on and become a challenger? What is the situation with the ground purchase and the 6month option mentioned at the press conference when you took over? Do you intend to buy the councils share (assuming they will sell) Bobby Hassell recently talked about the gulf between League One and Championship now being greater than the gulf between the Championship and the Prem. The FFP rules that apply in the Championship are very different to the SCMP rules that apply in League 1. And yet, SCMP rules do not allow promoted teams to prepare for promotion by being promoted with an individual player quality that can survive there. Promoted teams must, therefore, rely upon better teamwork and team ethic to survive that first season. Given this and our recruitment model, how would we be able to bridge that gap assuming we did get promoted this season? What are the plans for increasing attendances and are you prepared to risk reduced short term revenue via reduced ticket prices to chase long term increases in the fan base? e.g. Huddersfield/Bradford £100 season tickets if X of fans buy (maybe with a sliding scale - cheaper tickets the more sold) Does the recruitment process allow for the head coach to identify his own targets? How often has this happened? Does the consortium ever intend to invest heavily enough to make promotion to the Premier League happen? Does the consortium intend to invest again to make good on our promotion to the Championship, if indeed we are promoted in May? The company accounts of Barnsley Football Club (2002) Ltd for the year to 31 May 2018 (the first accounts covering the new ownership) will not be published until the end of February 2019. In the mean-time, can Mr Conway confirm that Mr Cryne’s loan was repaid from a second call on share capital, and not from profits on the sale of players, as many fans seem to believe? Redfearn's bar. The supporters trust bar is extremely successful. Are there plans to expand it? We haven't heard very much from the owners in the first year. Can something to be done to engage more with the fan base? (e.g. via official club channels etc) With the sale of Potts, fans were surprised to see Gauthier talking about the transfer helping with the clubs sustainability given the transfer fees attained in recent years. Are we to assume that this money wasn't available post-takeover? Does Mr Stendel believe that the squad has enough strength in depth to cope with injuries/suspensions and be promoted, or are we reliant upon luck? If we are not promoted at the end of the season, how will we fair next season with regards SCMP? The last time that we were promoted from League 1, Mr Cryne donated over £400k, presumably to allow the club to out-spend SCMP. Would the current board be prepared to do such a thing? Has the Puma contract been renewed already?? Any chance of a pre-season friendly with Nice? What are the plans to improve the match day experience further? The ownership of Barnsley Football Club (2002) Ltd has been arranged through BFC Investments Ltd, a company registered in Hong Kong. I have been unable to look at the division of share capital in that company, and therefore the division of ownership of Barnsley Football Club. A return has been made to Companies House which suggests that Mr Chien Lee is the largest shareholder, but it only defines his ownership as being between 25% and 50%. Is Mr Conway prepared to shed any light on the matter? How advanced are plans to replace Gauthier? Recruitment policy - are players over a certain age automatically rejected as part of our recruitment process? Have the reasons for our failure to make good on our last promotion been discussed at Board level? What can be done to ensure that what happened last time will not happen again and again, ad infinitum? Are there any plans to do anything with the west stand once we retain Championship status/improve gates? Did we do all the business we wanted to in the transfer window? Are we strong enough in each position? Scoreboard - any plans to buy a giant screen to show replays etc? (as well as the commercial possibilities it provides) Are there any plans to improve the club shop? Remaining home games and the run in .. With the exception of Sunderland and possibly Coventry, the North stand will be virtually empty. Could the club come up with An incentive scheme to fill Oakwell? How many tickets will we be giving Sunderland when they visit? What stops us giving the full capacity of the away end to clubs such as Sunderland that may be able to fill it? Some fans are becoming increasingly frustrated by what they describe as ineffective and lazy ball boys. Do they have any instructions to behave this way (e.g. if we are winning?) It seems to the default mode irrespective of the scoreline. Would it be possible for the TVs on the concourse to show the sky TV match and show a HD quality? One of the TV's in the east lower concourse hasn't worked all season. The club was made aware of this a few months back and since then rather than being repaired it's just been taken down leaving a bare wall. Could something be done about that? You can buy a 49" TV for under 250 quid.
Billy Beane, is he to become more active with the club? Whats his role? Does he advice Cryne Jnr with the spreadsheet. Can we have a look at the spreadsheet? If they tick the share button we can all have a dibs. Young Nudgers first.
What was the thinking of selling 2 players to our closest rivals? Was this due to them being fringe players or would we sell Moore/Pinnock for example to a rival too?
Random one but can you please sincerely thank the club for providing period products free of charge in the female toilets and ask if they could please ensure all cubicles also have sanitary disposal bins? I was unexpectedly caught short on Saturday and was incredibly grateful to have products able to use but then went to put the applicator in the bin to find there wasn’t one. Wrapping it in tissue and putting it in my pocket was far from ideal and they are unable to be flushed.
What are the plans to improve the match day experience at all? Some great questions there, I'd be very surprised if you got straight answers to some of them. I sense waffle ahead !
Hi Gally. Can you please raise the point about the transfer of rain from the outside pathways to inside the East Stand concourse during periods of inclement weather re- slip problem for supporters with arm crutches/ walking sticks. ? Asked if consideration to be given for mops and buckets to soak the rain up near the turnstiles and urine on the gents toilet cubicle floors. Also, could extra shelving please be put round the support pillars so supporters can put their drinks and or food purchased from the Club bar on prior to kick off and at half time.? Thanks mate.
Y Yikes Gally !! No-one expects the 'Spanish Inquisition'... Are you related to Robin Day? So are you going to go 'full on Gestapo ' and turn all the lights off except for a couple of bright spotlights in their faces too. Seriously, these are very probing ones and , if they can answer even half of them honestly, it will give a clear indication of where BFC are heading. Hopefully the bull**it detector will also be set up and fully tuned in!
Can it be asked when there will be some decent beers for before and half time rather than generic warm overpriced rubbish
Can the club still have a match postponed because it has the minimum required amount of players on International call- ups because of Live SkyTV coverage. If so, will the club apply for postponement?
Sorry club needed the questions so have sent them over now. Will keep any others in reserve if the opportunity exists
Class, nice one @Gally. Re this: How far did you get with this? I found the registered company in Hong Kong but the site wouldn't accept my credit card to pay to see the particulars of the company. You get any further? This website: https://www.icris.cr.gov.hk/csci/
Some good stuff there Gally. Can anyone tell me how often Chien Lee is seen at Oakwell on match day's?
Every now and again. He's been there maybe 5 or 6 times this season, something like that at an estimate (home games, at least). There a lot more than I expected, to be fair.
