I was taken to my first match at the end of the 67-68 season, v Chester I’m told, don’t remember too much about it, I was only 4!

The last game of the season was the first time I ever went to Oakwell on my own. Walking down to the bus station to catch the No 11 to good old Grimey, I heard the crowd, and walked up there , to enter the now open gates for the last 10 mins, of what I think was a 4-2 win against Newport?

I think I remember another 4-2 win but that was against Torquay. Did we avoid relegation and was it Bert Tindall’s last Game? Vague memories!

Can you imagine that now. Changing game times to suit fans? League: oh you can't do that. Not possible. Oh, what's that sky? Yes of course we'll change the day of a game with five weeks to go. Stuff the fans who've put leave in etc and itll ruin our biggest away derby. The fans don't count

I believe it was because the team represented both West Hartlepool and Hartlepool: and thus the pluralisation of the name.
