Weren't as big a deal as a lot of people first made out? Jacob Brown is twice the player of Potts, and he has far more potential. He will earn us a hell of a lot more £££'s than Potts ever would have. Don't get me wrong Potts improved this season compared to last, but he found his level, and addressing his fitness problems can't have done him any harm. The point is the board are doing a good job thus far, lets hope they continue to keep up the good work!
It's true that we haven't seen a downturn in form or performance since he left but I would still rather have him with us. Like you say though his departure hasn't hurt us as much as some, including me, thought it would.
You're main point is correct, and you're right, Potts has found his level. He's currently playing and scoring in The Championship.
No if Brown gets injured I'd love to have Potts Available. Maybe he would have scored the winner at Oxford. We just don't know. Coupled with the striker we signed being out on loan we are a little short in a few areas.
If you think Brown is twice the player of Potts you are dilutional. Which level do you think Potts has now found? We'd have been far better with both in the squad.
Potts is competing and scoring at championship level but he wanted to leave so that's that. Jacob is probably progressing faster by starting games which he wouldn't necessarily have done if Potts had stayed.
Exactly! We haven't really missed him but his level is the Championship which is where he's now playing.
I think if we were asked to name 3 players from the first team squad we could afford to lose in the January window, most of us would have said Isgrove, Moncur and possibly Potts. The lad's a good player but sometimes players just don't "fit", and the manager is not sure where to play them. Brad Potts could not get in the side in central midfield, so got played out wide, and even had a song penned about it. I think the Brown lad is better in the wide right position, although I didn't know that on 1st January. Overall, I think we have a better balance now, with nobody playing out of position.
No. Our squad has been weakened letting him go. Brown had competition with Potts and now has no competition because we didn't replace Potts. We lack cover if Brown gets injured and Brad left at a time when we had a great run of playing a lot of the worse teams in the league. Ask again after the Pompey and Sunderland games if we are missing him.
Benefit of hindsight always helps. I didn't think Potts fitted in quite right and neither did I think he had much quality. But he offers strength, pace and a knack of scoring goals. He'll never have the class of Mowatt but was useful, if not necessarily integral. It was always about the replacement for me and whilst Brown has stepped up, it's too early to describe Green as an able replacement for Potts. So whilst Potts departing hasn't bothered me unduly, we are weaker for it nonetheless. Same with Moncur really... again he wasn't the right fit here for various reasons, but he was an attacking option we now don't have. No problem with him going neither, but again we are essentially weaker for it.
This squad is weaker post window.. We didn't get the striker, the experienced striker most asked for, or any for that matter baring the lad that went back to Bradford. Me and others were worried how our run in would be affected by injuries by a weaked squad... Evan before yesterdays Moore incident. But the judgement of the above will wait till May... ether way.
