Yes, it looked absolutely brilliant. I really wish we'd come when we were in Leeds in 2017, but trying to coordinate a group of 20 people all pulling in different directions was impossible. I'll definitely manage it one of these days. It's a massive pity about the club. So few of the venues from my youth remain nowadays. Bed, The Arches and The Republic are long gone. In fact Sheffield which used to have so many awesome clubs is quite devoid, sadly. Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't Sankey's gone, and The Bomb in Nottingham appears to no longer be open. My favourite London haunt was Turnmills, another incredible venue which is no more.
Theres so much '**** blocking' that happens, you wouldn't believe. **** blocking is - 'He/She's ours. I bare the fruit, Diggers is mine, but the rest is a ******* minefield. So this year I'm ******* on it, go big or go home. I'll just offer more. Your 10 quid ticket…. thats all it takes, or your wife coming because its Sasha. If I can tell Diggers, your life story, I can wholeheartedly chat **** to Sasha about you as well.
I had to go to say goodbye to Mint and had a fine old time tbf I still try and get out and about on a semi regular basis but more gigs than clubbing these days.
I went last week and can vouch for that. He was absolutely relentlessly incredible. Never heard anything like it . We were deaf for 24 hours after! Aside from the atmosphere it was a beautiful night full of friendly folk and good feeling, just as it should be
Cheers Bryn. I can’t put my finger on exactly why it all works for us in terms of atmosphere. It’s so different to most clubbing nights even at mint. It’s got to be something to do with the age of the clientele. There’s hardly any phones out taking selfies or people trying to be Instagram models, it’s just heads down into the music, which is I suppose what makes it great and what made the 90s great, before phones. Thanks for being part of it mate. On to the next ones. I’ll let you know when we’ve got one sorted.
Great stuff. Just listened this morning. Shame the Mint has closed. Too many club venues lost in Leeds. I've heard the Church might be under threat too. Apparently Leeds Uni are after getting it back.
It is really bad news that. Great PA system in there. With Canal Mills going as well there is a real shortage of clubs.
Enjoed that mate and I'm an old codger. Bit Jean Michel Jarre-ish who I always liked back in the day.
I only started going to Mint Club recently and organised a night there myself last October. I’m really going to miss the place. That ceiling and Funktion One sound system are incredible
Such great memories of the Mint Club and Sankeys. Mind you, I'm going back fifteen years now. Time moves on at a frightening pace. Everything's a bit vague in my head now. Was Back to Basics at Mint then it moved down the road to that other club I've forgotten the name of? Was there a fish tank at the top of the stairs? Probably. Anyway, good to hear the 40 year olds are still on it.
Yeah it started a mint and then moved to Pleasure Rooms which was in the Arcade around the corner. Pleasure Rooms was an amazing venue. 3 floors
Sorry.... just seen this. We did the Fifty Fifty event on 20th October with Admnti and Laidlaw. We didn’t sell the place out but we got over 200 people in so it was reasonably successful for our first night there.
Still listen to Sasha and Diggers every now and then but mostly Maceo Plex at the moment. Love his balance of progressive, breakbeat and techno.
I’ve seen maceo a few times, he’s brilliant. Still prefer Sasha and Digweed and hope to have them both in Leeds next year for our 5th Birthday, in a 3k capacity warehouse. Need to remortgage the house like. I’m off to Glasgow to watch them in a few weeks with the wife. I’ve had Digweed in Leeds the last 3 years, top bloke and still an amazing DJ.
