Because the financially-doped clubs make it extremely difficult for anyone outside of them to win even a Carabao Cup. Can't beat them on the pitch, so there has to be something for fans to hold onto. Atmosphere, attendance, whatever.
Do we really think that Sunderland will rock up at Oakwell and play as Burton did last night.? I honestly don't think they will. If you look at their results they have not pulled up any trees away from home and I for one have confidence that we will beat them.
Feels odd to me that Reds fans feel they need to go on to the Sunderland forum and explain to them why we didn't win last night.
Our fan on there Rascal is no longer the daftest person talking about Barnsley FC on there. Sunderland fans are still under estimating how good we are and thinking we will just drop like a stone like Pompey appear to have.
Very much like Wednesday fans the Sunderland lot. Was blaming all the draws on teams raising their game against them. Two penalties saved them against gillingham last night
They are judging us on a mad 15 minutes at their place. They don’t get that penalty and we beat them. I think we’ll beat them down here if they have a go.
The very fact that an average side like Gillingham managed to score twice at the Stadium of Light, speaks volumes regarding Sunderlands defensive capabilities. As Andytyke rightly says , they got two penalties last night, so Ethan, Liam and Co need to excercise care when tackling them in the box. I am hoping that Kieffer is fully fit when we play them. His aerial threat could be crucial.
In the interest of balance there are some Sunderland fans on their forum that say that even in beating us they could see we were the best side they’d played this season. I’m not sure there are any more idiots on their forum proportionally than on this one. There are a few who think they’ve a divine right to walk this league - but I don’t think they are anything like on the scale of the Wednesday massives. I think we are a better team than them. If we were playing at the weekend I’d be confident of beating them, we seem to struggle to recover for tuesdays though so it might be interesting.
Maybe they will, if they are in the same situation as is at the moment i.e. 4 points behind with a game in hand, they might play for the draw to not get further behind. So yes I can see Sunderland playing the same as Burton. If they are more than 6 points behind (I wish!) Then they might have to come and play for the win, however, there's still a load more games to play after.
