If an incident occurred in the next game like the one that’s just happened with Chelsea where one of our players refuses to be subbed off even after being told by Stendel several times, what would you want to happen to the player? (If anything) Should the importance of the player count or the situation the game was in at the time of the sub?
For me, I'd back Daniel 100%, NOT the player. He's the boss, the responsibility is his and no one else's. I'd have said the same no matter who was in charge, too. Whether it was John McSeveney, Nigel Spackman, Steve Parkin, or Simon Davey for example. The player or situation is irrelevant. There's one gaffer and one gaffer only. I'd back the boss on however he felt best to deal with the consequences. Although I wouldn't expect any player to act so unprofessionally.
Would not happen. Daniel does not look the type to be messed with. As for the player - hoisted atop the rusty ironwork outside the Town Hall. (And that's the polite version!)
A former higher-up in the club told me that Alan Clarke was a strange individual to work with - "but Nigel Spackman was something else!"
The Manager of a Football Club is in charge of the players. That’s the job. There is a hierarchy. The Manager has people above to make decisions if the Manager is getting it wrong. Players should respect the decision of the Manager. Unfortunately, Players are often paid more than the Manager. Just another example of Football being a messed up sport. In answer to the question though, Manager’s decision sticks until they are relieved of their duties.
Depends.... If it had been that clown Davey in charge I'd have laughed my tits off.... I'd have backed the tea lady's opinions over his and still do where he's concerned
It cant be allowed to stand - No player can publicly refuse a direct instruction and be allowed to escape severe consequences. He shouldnt play for the team again until he made a public apology That said you have to ask questions about the authority of the manager - can you imagine a player trying that one with Brian Clough, Sir Alex Fergusson , Sir Bobby Robson etc
The minute the gaffers authority is undermined he's rarely the gaffer for much longer. I'd back Daniel every time. I'm glad its a hypothetical question and I think we're lucky we appear to have a good bunch of players who wouldn't dream of doing what the Chelsea lad did.
If we had a identical situation to that, a lot of people wouldn't be around for long. I would get rid of the head coach for letting player power win. The keeper would be sold for not following orders. The captain at the very least would never captain again for being so poor at dealing with the situation. Questions would be asked of all other players because they should have all gone and had a word with the keeper to leave the field of play. He only saved 1 of 5 penalities and let in a howler because he was so cramped up he couldn't move properly.
If it hadn't been for the players ignoring his instructions on that day at Liverpool to defend defend we would have been out... Whilst I respect your views.. I on this occasion will agree to disagree .. That's before we kick off the old debate around the man who has caused more arguments on here than Hemsworth or young Nudger
