Statistics can be completely misleading and can only come alive when context and truly comparable data is provided. They are different players with very different roles in the team. if you started to provide distance covered, tackles, break ups and passing percentages, then you might start to have a good idea if you want to compare one player against another. Interestingly 3 of Moncurs assists all came against Posh away, a game he scored his only league goal for us too. Deduct that one game as an outlier and all of a sudden, his contribution isn't as glossy as it may be painted. Also, the delight that are assist statistics. I've often found they are applied to the last touch before a goal, that could be a deflection, a simple pass, someone getting tackled and effectively being dispossessed for someone else to pick up the ball. Bahre has been involved in numerous key passages of play. The flick that set Moncur away to cross for McGeehan was a fabulous piece of awareness and skill. Had he not seen Moncurs run, McGeehan wouldn't have scored. Moncur did well of course to then pass a fairly simple ball into the path of McGeehan, but it was he who got the assist, but Bahres contribution isn't recorded. I think there are times Bahre helps create chances and can free up space for others, and there are other times when he struggles. He seems to have a great attitude, is one of the few unselfish players in the squad and clearly has talent. Its up to us to get the most out of him, though he can be a little frustrating I agree.
Interesting but it's not just about stats, obviously, and when you talk about how he influences the general structure and flow of play it becomes very opinionated.
Not backing the manager in the January transfer window could cost us big time. Never had enough options and not replaced Moncur or Isgrove. And don't say Green because we never see him.
So Green is a perfect replacement for Isgrove Getting Styles back from loan is arguably replacement for Moncur though I am less sure about that I am puzzled as to why we havent seen more of Green - he came on against Oxford and along with Moore transformed us and I thought he had a great debut - no idea why he hasnt featured since
Bahre has been poor recently. Couldn't hit a barn door with a banjo. I'd favour bringing in fresh legs in Dougall and letting McGeehan press on.
The thing here is that Stendel gets a couple of chances to get this right - starting 11 then options from bench. But he'll need to be brave enough to make any changes required, if any, at the right time. Think I would start Doogs and play Cam as a no.10. If that didn't work then I'd want something different and threatening from the bench and for me that's Green - probably as a swap for Doogs and Cam drops back. Of course, if Doogs is having a blinder then it's a dilemma. I'm sure DS has a plan and is working it through in training.
Really? I think he has the touch of Peter Sutcliffes hammer and the turning circle of his lorry. One little drag back per game on the half way line seems to have a lot of people under some kind of mystical spell.
Perhaps we could try a inflective substitution so that DS ends a sentence with an upward lilt rather than a level one. Or would that make him sound too Australian?
