    Left in 1974. Was part of that great Holgate football team that won the Barnsley inter-school league and cup in seasons 69/70, 70/71 and 71/72 without conceding a single goal. In friendly games in the same period, we conceded 6 in 3 seasons. It was a great school which taught me a lot.

    Left in 1975, I remember Mr Jarvis the maths teacher, made my life a misery because I couldn't understand anything he was on about, used to humiliate me in class. I didn't know my fractions from quadratic equations!

    Jarvis was a b*****d. Did exactly the same with me. Never forget the half smile of complete and utter amazement he gave me the day the O level results were out cos I'd scraped a C. Nothing like as amazed as I was mind.
    He was a decent cricketer though. I remember watching him in the masters v pupils games.

    I used to do an impression of him to my mum & dad. Before the parents evening I did another, saying "Whadda ya wanna know". Low & behold these were the precise words he ushered, as my parents arrived at his door at parents evening. They totally cracked up apparantly.
