As a kid I always remember papers and commentators commenting on how Everton won the league due to their ability of grinding out results when not playing well and a huge % of goals also came in the last 10 minutes. At this time of season it’s about collecting points.
I was going to respond but having seen the comments of others it would feel a bit like kicking a puppy.
I really do despair at times. We win away from home with 10 men and still Nudger is not happy. Even when we went down to 10 men I didn’t think Southend would trouble us, and they didn’t. Really great team performance and the team spirit was evident to see throughout. Onwards and upwards, you Reds!
A fine win in the circumstances, yes. However, there is some truth in what Nudger says. Some of the final balls, particularly first half were poor and indeed so was some of the decision-making at times. The comment about Mowatt's shooting was also correct imo. In other words, the team still have a way to go to look really classy. I think that's what he was saying - he just wants a better performance. Nothing wrong with wanting a better performance even if we won 3-0 or 10-0. However, if you're reading this Nudger I think overall you're doing the team a disservice. Given there was no Moore AND they had to play with 10 men for about an hour perhaps you should cut them some slack!
The pitch didn't look to be one of the best we've played on and we are lucky that Brown, Cavare and Green didn't suffer injury after being bundled over the touchline onto what looked to be a hard unrelenting surface. Having very poor officials didn't help matters either. Browns dismissal is debatable and we could have had two penalties when Lindsay was blatantly obstructed in their box. Having said that, even though I hope he didn't mean it, Cam Mc could have been in serious trouble for treading on their players thigh, if the referees assistant had caught the Refs attention to report him.
We play football, and we play it regardless of where the ball is on the pitch. It's great to watch, but sometimes it doesn't come off and can be frustrating. Credit to the lads though for sticking with it. I'd say winning 3 0 away from home after playing most of the game a man short is pretty convincing.
Shocking performance Nudge. 10 men for two thirds of the game, clean sheet, star striker our for the season, three different scorers, and the first time since Donny when Darren Moore got sent off that we've scored three without reply against ten men.
Were Southend poor or was it the fact we didn't allow them the room to do anything of note... We attacked together and hunted the ball down with a pack mentality .. 3pts are 3pts no matter how you play... If we were to play like Nudger expects... God knows what the score would have been ... I for one would like to heap praise not only on the boys but the coaching staff too . . We have one strong unit on our hands from top to bottom... Well played bsly football club you did us proud...
Basically, the OP expects us to play to the standards of Barcelona at their absolute best. He forgets that despite everything, we are a LEAGUE ONE SIDE (thought he’d appreciate a bit of upper case) How anyone can not just kick back and enjoy the exciting, often thrilling, unfettered football we are playing this season is utterly baffling.
Do you think you can praise the centre back pairing or is that a step to far for your blinkered opinion
