Like anyone in life he'll make his first priority ensuring his financial future and then look to achieve his professional ambitions. With the board stating they're not going to go crazy I'd say it's unlikely he will be able to do either with us but you never know. Interesting times.
To the outside we have wealthy owners, have a team of championship players after coming down last season, a big budget for this league, which other clubs in this league could have extended Mowatt contract and signed Woodrow who wasn't an unknown. All he has done is what was expected and loads of managers could have done it this season with our squad and resources. I would also put us above in the food chain now we have these owners than Millwall, Rotherham, Bolton, Wigan and if Leeds Wednesday Villa Derby etc don't make it up soon thier stock will drop, Swansea etc parachute payments will stop and they are stuck with players and managers on massive wages. We potentially could be building up the right way without the baggage held by the other clubs. As we stand though you are right but I hope I am eventually.
Much as I wish you weren't right, you are. Landlord of my local club is a Derby season ticket holder and is praying Sarri, at Chelsea doesn't get the sack. It's because the fans believe Lampard will then be linked, highly unlikely to get the job, but could unsettle them for the season finale. That's the mentality when you are not a massive club. Such as Darren Moore getting sacked, will the vultures be circling?
At the end of the day mate, I hope you are right but on the flip of it, we’ve been burned nearly every time when it comes to doing well. Hecky would never leave, it’s his Club; Danny wouldn’t leave after what he’s done for us; Allan Clarke, was another. In most cases a manager is only a bad run from being sacked so they are programmed to look for the money or the best chance of success. Andy Ritchie was the messiah, was courted by the pigs and was sacked a few weeks later. I just know that if we think Stendel is going to be here forever, or for a long time then I think we’re going to be upset. I’d love him to stay for a decade and tbf we have more chance of keeping him now than ever, but the board have already shown that if money comes in, everyone has a price.
One thing that Stendel has done which should outlast him either way is give the first team and the rest of the club a playing identity. Therefore, whoever comes next should be in the same mould and with a brief to carry on with the gegenpressing and with the junior teams learning to play the same way.
Not being funny but where’s your evidence that “he is working for wealthy owners who can compete with the majority of other owners around the world.” I’m not doubting their wealth, just that there are any signs or ambition yet, that it has made any difference since they took over.
As soon as a bigger club wants him he will be gone like everyone else seems to. We have no idea about his contract so it's probably a rolling contract with a release clause. We'd all love an announcement that he's signed a four year contract without any clauses, but it's never going to happen. I would be shocked if he's still with us by the end of next season either head hunted or sacked. The days of guys like Hassell, Steele and Foster sticking around long term are gone. Don't get too attached to anyone these days.
Yes he appears to be a good un does Herr Stendel! Dont forget tho folks, when the big money offers come in, he'll be off (hopefully not for an affair with Wendy tho!) and you cannot blame him, money is the reason 99% of people go to work for. Enjoy it while he is here.
I hate to say this but the Owners will see Stendel as an asset and there will be a compensation clause written into his contract. If they can make money on him they won't stand in his way. I desperately hope I'm wrong but I have to admit it worries me.
I can't see why billionaire Chien Lee and successful business men Beane and Conway would have bothered to take over unless they were looking to compete at a higher level, not much prestige or financial income in Barnsley yo yo Ing in and out of league 1 to be worth their time and effort. Even if they shut the club and sell everything its still that's not mega bucks compared to Premier league money and sponsorship.
I agree with this. I think Stendel is a great leader & clearly passes confidence on to what is a young group of players. We were favourites for promotion at the start of the season, so I'm not sure how much notice other big teams will be taking at this stage, but if we go up & start well next year, then when managerial casualties happen I'd be more worried.
We're all talking about bigger clubs in England. Think it is far more likely that he could be tempted back to Germany for obvious reasons. I think we have to live in the moment and enjoy it. Players/Managers come and go its the nature of the beast. Just enjoy the ride (& don't get too emotionally attached to any one individual).
I’d agree with that assessment but the results so far are: 1 relegation, 2 gambles on foreign managers - one which didn’t work and another that did, and a continuation of our ridiculous January transfer policy. That’s why I think there isn’t a lot of evidence that having a mega rich board suggests “happy days are here again.” To be frank, in the face of that environment, it’s what makes Stendel’s achievements so impressive.
I disagree with your comment regarding "continuation of our ridiculous January transfer policy". Any other time Moore, Pinnock and others would also likely have been sold. As for incomers, as has been well documented on here, who decent would have come in to play second fiddle to Moore and Woodrow?
That’s a very low bar you’re setting if you think that’s a good January transfer window, and I suppose by our poor previous standards there’s something in what you say. However, I thought the point about having owners with a bit of cash behind them was that we could put some of the bad old practices behind us. Otherwise.....what’s the point of them.
Herr Stendel won 17, drew 9 and lost 8 in the one season he managed Hannover. His win rate was 50.00%, whilst ours currently stands at 56.82%. Seems harsh that he got the tin tack, but I suppose that their loss, is our gain.!
The enemy is closer than you think in my opinion... If and when he eventually goes... God forbid any time soon then I'd say... look no further than our new sister club... Nice to know he's doing a great job I'd say...
