Last time we were in L1 he was an excellent keeper, 1st season in the Champ he was a decent keeper. A year later, he had a completely new, disjointed defence and was pretty poor.
Last season seems a looong time ago and I think Adam's put it behind him. Early this season I think he struggled with his confidence after last years car crash season. But he's gradually built in confidence and it shows. If we go up I think he has a point to prove.
On one hand, he could put his demons behind him, become an established Championship keeper and this could propel into a full Welsh International career.
OR he could drop off, let his confidence issues become too heavy and not play in the 2nd tier again.

All this is my opinion, like. But hopefully he keeps working hard, football-wise and mentally, and he'll go places.

A like Davies me, think he’s a really good goalie, sometimes comes in for a lot of stock for his distribution but we dare that from most opppsing goalkeepers on a weekly basis

Think he'll surprise people next season. If we don't flog the defense/replace well, he'll only improve. And he's pretty decent now.

The best keeper in this league and still a few years before he peaks. I'd like to see him sign a new contract in the summer.

His goalkeeping is excellent (even best goalies make mistakes look at de gea today) but his distribution is shocking sometimes. Hes either too slow or too quick releasing the ball and his kicking is poor. Needs to work on that side but in between the sticks i wouldnt swop him.....

He won’t be at Oakwell next season. When he got asked about it a few weeks ago it sounded to me like he wants a new challenge.

He’ll be off. Stendel wants a different kind of keeper.

I agree with the OP regarding Davies. All in all has been a good keeper for us.

I would have thought if he was staying a new contract would have been sorted by now, so it does appear that he may leave.
He's coming to his peak years & I think there will be some lucrative offers for an experienced keeper who is out of contract.

I think Davies is a great shot stopper and his kicking has improved massively. Still a little prone to the odd lapse like Saturday when he rolled the ball out casually to a marked player which caused us huge problems (not for the first time).
For me though, the loanee goalkeeper we had for a couple of games highlighted Davies main weakness which would cause us problems in the Championship with more capable strikers. i.e. his lack of command in the 6 yard area. He seems glued to his line on corners and is one reason we concede, are at least used to, most of our goals from close range via corners and dead ball sitautions. Personally I think defence, mainly Pinnock have improved things in that area rather than Davies correcting that weakness. He still reluctant to come for crosses and doesn't seem to have improved much in that area.
Like I said though, he is still one of the best, if not THE best keeper in League 1 and we have a great defensive record as a unit this season.

I try to not get too attatched to anyone at the club, as i realise they are sellable assets, to our "plan".
Imho, hes a good keeper at this level but does not command his area as well as he should and his distribution poor. Great shot stopper though. The club will want a younger model in, who they can sell at a profit.

he is a good keeper in this league but championship is a different matter , but why is he the captain , everyman and his dog can see he is completely ineffective as captain .

Who us in need of a keeper
Why not wait until we're definitely in the championship if that's where he wants to play, I don't see him not signing a contract yet as meaning he definitely wants to go elsewhere.

Do you "think" Herr Stendel wants a different kind of keeper or do you know?

I think Davies is a good solid keeper but with our defence this season he's not had a great deal to do. Occasional mis-understanding with his back four (Oxford) and aerially he's not the very best but I like him.

I hope that you are right. I'd like to keep him, but I think as a free agent he may get better financial offers than we will make.

In preseason Davies was asked what difference Stendel was making and he said something like “he wants us goalkeepers to play out with the ball at our feet, like a sweeper keeper” As good as Davies has been this season I don’t think he has added this to his game. I suspect we’ll bring a keeper in from the continent in the summer

Has the season has gone on he seems to have gained in confidence and now I am seeing him catching the ball more as opposed to punching or flapping at everything and he is releasing the ball more quickly at times. Hope he can carry this confidence into next season thats if he is still here.

IF Davies moves on I hope Daniel has a Muller up his sleeve - the best I`ve seen in my many Barnsley years.

As noted in Gally's fans' forum notes from February:
"As an aside from this, I was talking to one of the staff at the club recently and they were telling me what a phenomenal club captain Adam Davis is. Best one they have dealt with in years. Meticulous in organising the players with community commitments, discipline etc etc. Not the sort of thing we see I guess but I thought it was interesting"
He is respected as a brilliant captain by all the players & back room staff & most of us fans.
He deserves to be captain & anyone that can't see that should go to Specsavers :)
Not having a dig though, because I do understand you can't see it on the pitch, just as Gally had noted.

Good shot stopper, not suited to the sweeper keeper at all though which is why he wont be here next season. His distribution is terrible, his kicking has got slightly better but still poor. Seems to release it quick when he shouldnt and then dwells when a quick break is on. The passage in the first half on saturday when he played it to pinnock, back to davies then to lindsay and out for a throw summed it up.
