N No need for apologies mate, it's just opinions and points of view etc. What I meant by a while was years,You are most probably right about the euro stipulating certain things for us to rejoinder and I am sure that joining the euro would be top of the list but it pales into insignificance if the Lisbon 2020 treaty is anything to go by.
What about the Scottish referendum for independence. 16 yrs of age..now extended for parliamentary elections.
I think the kebab is actually covered in vomit. Plus it's raw in the middle, and you've only just realised after eating half of it.
Or Labour Party membership where it’s aged 14 or over. Influencing policy. Signed up on a promise of ‘dealing with’ student debt.
No but you can vote against them after a short period of time. We had two general elections very close to eachother recently. Having a further vote more than two years later isn’t undemocratic. Given the illegality of the first one’s running, it would actually be more democratic to have another. But that doesn’t suit the agenda - despite the top level pro brexiteers, especially Mr Farage, saying that if it was any less than 60/40 he’d want - no, demand - a second vote. Until he won on a much smaller margin than that. 52/48 on 72% turnout and it’s done forever?
The whole process has been a debacle. It's given everyone - and quite reasonably - the reason to submit infinite arguable points. Promoting the first referendum as "illegal" however is not one of them.
It’s the Tories fault . After having a cross party campaign on leave and stay they then decided to have a Tory party Brexit and froze every other feker out . This was arrogant and a hijacking of the cross party consensus. Now they are surprised at why people are calling foul of their hijacking of the people’s vote . The Tories called for this to heal their party the health of the country was second shame on them for dividing the country and telling everyone we should leave and ride rough shod over the very rules we were instrumental in making if a country wanted to leave .
I don't think the referendum was illegal but certain high profile members of the leave party's practices certainly were. In my opinion they should have been personally charged with breaking electoral rules.
I would agree it doesn't have to be done forever, but it's only right that we follow the precedents set... that every referendum result this country has ever held has been enacted, and not overturned by second votes or parliamentary chicanery. I'm sure Farage would have carried on, but the issue would have been settled for many many years, certainly as far as I or any other Leave voter I have discussed it with are concerned...likewise Scots and Welsh Nats will carry on that's their whole reason for being.
So just list the extent to which you were hoodwinked into voting other than you would otherwise have voted. Off you go...
You do know that VoteLeave overspent after clearing the expenses with The Electoral Commission? The fact is they were given the wrong advice, had the EC not cleared it, it wouldn't have been spent. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...endum-uk-election-boris-johnson-a8537791.html
I wasn't. Some were. And by some I certainly don't mean everyone or even the majority. I have no idea if it was enough to swing the vote or not and that wasn't really my point it was more a comment on certain people who lied rather than being about the result. I think that anyone knowingly lying during an election campaign should be heavily punished, not just in relation to the referendum but in general.
Leave broke the rules so much so that, had it been a decision rather than deemed advisory, it would have had to be re-run! Even those who believe we should leave can’t surely want to ride roughshod over real democracy!
If you think in overall terms of attempted influence, that the leave efforts exceeded remain, then you are deluded.
