Probably our worst display this calendar year. But Stendel's substitution's were all positive ones, as we went for the three points. Ironic that Jacob's least effective game resulted in him getting the late, late winner. Pinnock was my MOTM, closely followed by Lindsay, then Walton. I don't think another player was anywhere close to being at their best. However, especially at this stage of the season, the result is paramount and we got it. Oh, and a seventh clean sheet on the bounce. Happy and relieved.
When you get to this stage of the season with the pressure on and nerves kicking in big time it's got to be difficult for young lads to play without a bit of apprehension and lose their touch. Despite that they've hung in there with lack of personnel also a major problem. Three huge points today. It may or may not help us to automatic but full credit to them for gutsing it out and delivering the results. 19 unbeaten. Incredible. Don't think I've ever seen 20.
matters not how we get the points as long as we do. Scruffy or lucky wins.... the result is the main thing. It puts the pressure back on Sunderland.OK they have 2 games in hand and are just 5 points behind us .But IMHO they have stronger teams to face than we do in the run in.Also the very close schedule they have to play could easily tire them which may work in our favour.
Not many highlights today, but we got the three points. That's what really counts. https://www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/11673367/walsall-0-1-barnsley
Well done, big win for you lads. One minute I was walking through Asda passing the bread aisle and it was 0-0 and showing 90 +2 on the BBC match page then by the time I reached the butter it was 0-1. Well done, the only thing that matters is winning, as you would be, I'm desperately hoping you or Luton (and Portsmouth) drop at least a point before we play again after the checkatrade final but mentally prepared for you both winning every point going. Hopefully we can then reverse the pressure by starting to claw back some points. I'm not going to have any fingernails left after the end of this season like.
Points first as said, think as well we should not forget the team has not been settled for a few weeks now, we’re past that now and should be more settled moving forward.
Cheers. Travelling down 5am Sunday morning, wetherspoons full English followed by lashings of lager. Staying Sunday night then heading back North on Monday. I've got a nagging worry that we will end up playing Portsmouth 3 times within a matter of weeks
I didn’t even have to think about it either, it just came to me in a flash. Good luck at Wembley next week, hope you win
Shows the value of having a top defence. It means you can hang in games for long enough so when the ball does drop in the box you’ve got a chance to win a game you had no right to.
Just back in and would agree with all that's been said above. Pinnock superb, Lindsay a rock too and Walton made three vital saves. Our passing wasn't good today, we didn't seem fluid and hungry in our movement and we gave away so much ball it's scarcely believable that we had nearly 60% possession. On the other hand let's give Walsall some credit, they organised themselves to nullify us and then hit us on the break, meaning we couldn't really use the pressing game. And one thing that's not been mentioned I don't think - that pitch was absolutely atrocious by modern day standards. We've played much better and drawn games earlier in the season and so today was getting one back for me and when you can go into games almost guaranteed that you won't concede, your chances of sneaking a win like we've done are always going to be pretty good. Love DS' reaction and how much it meant to Brownie and the boys at the end. I'll manage seven more just the same, if that's what it takes!
I remember Marlon Brando reaching for the butter .... Bloody hell, Sunday morning and I'm thinking of that ! Muck, Muck, Muck.
