How so? That new away stand brought in over £100k just two weeks ago. The old away end would still be there now if it was left to the previous Regime.
Yes. Amusingly the company they’ve lent off for the charges is Drunaville Ltd. Owned by Niall Quinn. Amongst others.
I'm guessing you went when we beat them 3-2 on the last day of the season to send them into the old relegation play-off. We were crammed in a corner and pelted with missiles. They lost the play-off with Gillingham and got relegated. There's a good mention for us in this article. https://www.sunderlandecho.com/spor...egation-into-division-three-in-1987-1-9131118
I can confirm that there are huge numbers of numbties on our board who are not representative of our typical support. It's a popular board therefore the number of loonies is probably higher than many other boards purely by % of posters. We like to think we are ok in person in the real world but the internet is another dimension altogether that brings out the worst in many. I don't visit our board if we've drew or lost as it's like a zombie full moon of irrational lunatics have taken over the world.
I never knew that, pretty shocking to hear that. No excuse at all but those were very dark days for us. McMenemy had sucked the life out of the club. The Gillingham home game saw a couple of hundred mags turn up to rub it in and really took the hatred of them to new levels. Actually there's been mags at most of our games this season.
As long as I can remember the games between Carlisle and Sunderland have been spikey to say the least.
Carlisle was always rumoured to be rough. Went a few times mid 80s, and it was ok, but we went on the coach which was safe. One of our small group of "lads" back then was said to have lost his front teeth at Carlisle.
Can't remember if Sunderland needed to win or avoid defeat, but at 2 down the place was rocking. Memorable away day because we were so poor on the road back then.

Mackems fans need to introduce some informed perspective before they pass comment on how good, bad or indifferent our squad is. First thing to say, is that like Sunderland, we had International call ups, but we opted to play our game against Walsall and as a result two of our best players re- Davies and Hedges were unavailable for Saturday's game. Add to that, we lost another international in Kenny Dougall with a broken leg against Doncaster and another of our best defenders Dani Pinnilos has missed games because of a bleed on his eye .Our biggest miss of course is Kieffer Moore who was seriously injured away at Gillingham on the 9 th February. The lad was scoring for fun in that prior to his injury he'd scored five in six games and bagged eighteen in total. Since he's been out, we've had eight games and won four and drawn four including stalemates against both Sunderland and Doncaster. We've also had to play two very important games without McGeehan and Brown. To compensate for our missing players, Daniel has had to play Victor Adeboyejo who is 21 years old and has a total of eleven first team games to his credit and Callum Styles who is 18 years old and has in total, made three cameo appearances from the bench since he was recalled from his loan spell at Bury. The Mackems can cite as many adjectives as they like to outline our luck and how we play. For me the fact we've gone 19 games unbeaten since the 1-1 draw at Fratton Park with at times, what has been a "patched up " team is nothing short of miraculous. !! Well done Daniel Stendel and his fellow coaches and every player who has donned that famous red shirt. Really proud of you all. Good luck for the remaining games boys.
The company I work for has its manufacturing factory in Darlington and has many Sunderland fans working there. The forklift trainer from there was down the other month and he was absolutely spot on. Big Sunderland fan and was very humble and knowledgeable. We also have a guy whos from Sunderland who supports our store when needed and he’s the most down to earth Sunderland fan you could meet. I have no gripe towards your team or supporters and just see it as a friendly rivalry. You’ll always get idiots trying to stir things on forums
