I know what culture is and I think I have quite a good grasp on what Marxism is but I cannot for the life of me reconcile those two things. So, because we all love political discussions on this board, I'm going to leave here the questions: What is cultural marxism? Does it have a definition? Is it a right wing dog whistle or something much more? Will be interesting to see this boards thoughts on this.
It's a far right trope. It used to be pretty clearly crypto-fascist and anti-semitic, but now it pretty much means anything from 'Jewish' (in the 'running the media' sense) to 'politically correct' (in the 'gone mad' sense). Even on the softer end, I've never once seen it used seriously by anybody to whom I'd give the time of day.
It's another term for "political correctness". Another term for the same thing is "critical theory". Started with the "Frankfurt School". Basically they believe that a Marxist revolution is impossible in the West without changing the culture and social institutions first. Some would say that is what has happened, as most of our institutions have adopted political correctness as their creed.
Depends on your take of political correctness, many institutions/ work places have simply come out of the dark ages and started to recognise and address issues such as equality on wide range of fronts, some more than others. Generally, there’s still some way to go on things such as pay/ job equality.
Marx's theory as far as I am aware is capitalism sums to zero , that capitalism takes a percentage of your wealth created for profit means eventually you end up with less money means in the end it goes bust . The 2008 crash could be described as cultural Marxism .
Cultural Marxism is a theory around changing the culture of society, started in the Frankfurt school of social theory and critical philosophy at the Goethe Institute in the 1930s looking at the philosophies of Kant and Hegel. These academics didn't agree with Marxism or Capitalism and looked at other ways of changing culture and society, before they fell foul of the Nazi's and their supporters. It is now seen as anti-Semitic and is popular with those nice far-right people like Anders Brevik.
cultural marxists are extreme left wingers who blame everybody and everything thats exactly what it is pal, the cultural marxists are left of left so to speak, they oppose most things that are associated with , (in particular), western culture, issues ranging from capitalism to marriage are on the agenda
The issue here though is that no sane person would claim that the current policies of anyone in the UK are even remotely close to cultural marxism The problem here is that far right groups have historically used the term against those who dont conform to their narrow minded viewpoint The fact that a Tory MP is using the term is very concerning - either she is too stupid to understand the significance of the term or doesnt care - or both Good article on it here in the Guardian - that well known Marxist rag https://www.theguardian.com/comment...-for-rightwingers-who-love-to-play-the-victim
