I'm no expert on McLean but I'm not sure about pro IRA. He won't wear a poppy and fair enough. My girlfriend is Irish and neither would she. She cant stand Sinn Fein or the IRA either. I have watched him twice play for Ireland in the last week though and, footballing wise, he looks awful. Headless chicken.
His poppy protest was something that some Sunderland supporters understood his view on but he also named a pro ira song on his Twitter account as one of his personal favourites which didn't go down well. I'm pretty sure when he last carried out his poppy protest at Stoke he upset many Stoke fans by ambling down the tunnel and around the side of the pitch during the minutes silence.
Fair enough. Not very gracious at the very least. How did you rate him as a footballer? As I say, I wasn't impressed at all.
He was ok as a player, he was very hard working and physical for a wide player but not a match winner. His off the field stuff affected his form imo.
I think that once you play at senior level you shouldn't be allowed to change the country you represent.
Spot on. It's the rules that need to change to prevent players swapping allegiances after representing a country at senior level.
