There's a goal from the 1999/00 season I want to see again, and haven't seen it other than live in the ground. It was a counter attack goal scored by Robin Van Der Laan away at Fulham in November 99. We won 3-1 and it was an early kick off with England playing Scotland that afternoon in a Euro 2000 qualifier. Karl Heinz Riedle scored for Fulham, our other goals were a Kit Symons own goal and one from Bruce Dyer. Van Der Laan’s goal was beautifully simple, I reckon 4 or 5 touches from Miller throwing the ball out to it rolling over the Fulham line. Eaden and Hignett involved in the move I think.
Barnard on the opening day at Charlton scored a pearler. Genuinely, even as a club we struggle like buggery for footage from certain seasons. No archive was maintained it seems.
Yes, that goal of Barnard's was a beauty, left foot volley from a long cross from, probably, Nicky Eaden. We were Clive Mendonca'd for most of the game. I wonder if Sky hold an archive?
Oh, there are companies with archives. That charge. Just a shame that our predecessors didn’t create their own club archive. At least when our little team leave one day, whoever comes into our shoes will have tonnes to fall back on. Mendonca was like Batistuta whenever we came up against him.
Fantastic, really appreciate that. Funny how the mind plays tricks. No Miller involved, or Eaden! 19 years and 4 months since I last saw that. Cheers.
Don't think that was a goal against Fulham. I was at the match when The Reds won 3-1, away fans were sat on the side nearest the Thames towards the Cottage end. As I recall The Reds played in our colours that day...
It was the Fulham game. The commentator mentions Fulham twice and says Fulham 1 Barnsley 3 at the end.
I was stood on what was then open terracing behind the goal that Van der Laan scored in. They battered us for 45 minutes. Geoff Horsfield was also playing for Fulham. You can see Riedle make the cross field pass at the start of the clip, and Kit Symons walk past Van der Laan when he'd scored. Watched the England v Scotland game in a pub up the road called the Old Suffolk Punch.
This is exactly what I'm doing. Collecting every bit if footage I can find to create the ultimate Reds on film archive.
Looking at that 20 odd years ago didn't we get some dreadfully small crowds. Compared with what we get now in the third division.
I’ve tried to upload the Liverpool away highlights a few times but they always get blocked by the Premier League, despite most the others being ok. Remove that match and it might not be a problem.
