intersting read,it must be awful to try and even concentrate when hate is aimed at you constantly .
Especially when the reason is becsuse of the colour of his skin .
There’s others in sport that also get abused Gays, Muslims,etc etc .
There’s lots the authorities could do to help Danny and others and it’s not only being allowed to get aired in sport but in all parts of life ,
How people are allowed to peddle this filth is a concern and people like this Tommy whatever his name is should not be allowed any media coverage whatsoever and hauled up on the slightest incite of racism and any of his apologists .
We gonna lose good people from our sport if we don’t act soon.

 

Agree Marlon. I was reading a piece in one of the papers yesterday that said the only
effective way to counteract racism, is for the player or players being abused to walk
off the pitch and refuse to take any further part in that particular game. Only then, they
claimed to avoid widespread disruption will the Football authorities start to seriously tackle
the problem that continues to blight the game.!

 

I think that’s one way of demonstrating Donny but I think s lot more needs to be done politically as well .

 

Do you hear anything at matches these days (speaking about at Barnsley specifically)? I can't say I do, other than all players getting abuse off sections of the crowd after mistakes etc

If was certainly rife right into the mid 90's though. Now just the very odd village idiot who has had too many shandys prior to kick off.

 

I was at Coventry and Jacob Browne was called horrible racist names by a few reds fans because he according to them wasn’t playing very well .

 

He is certainly right to speak up about it, although one line, did not help his cause:

"When countries get fined what I probably spend on a night out in London what do you expect?
(Spending £42k on a night out?).

I think that some countries should be banned from holding home games for persistent offending & be made examples of.
There is a massive issue with racism / homophobia in many of these countries & UEFA & FIFA are not doing enough by a country mile.

 

Had me at the fine being the same as he'd spend on a night out!

Seriously though racism exists in all walks of life unfortunately.

All players of whatever race need to be united though. These are their colleagues and it's time to stand up and be counted imo and walk off the pitch.

 

I would agree things are a lot better than they used to be , though they are still a few out there . I guess the bigger problem is let's say England play away at let's say Macedonia . Abuse starts but there's nothing the FA or the law in this country can do about it . It's down to the Macedonian fa and FIFA/ uefa and 9 times out of 10 they do very little .

 

It would send an even stronger message if the opposition players walked off in support of the abused player.

 

No doubt there’s still plenty of racism about but you barely ever hear it at football games.

I’d hazard a guess that as a black man from the Leeds / Bradford area he’d probably encounter more racism if he was a builder who went to his local or into Leeds every Saturday night.

It needs eradicating but I don’t think it’s a football problem it’s a society problem & Balkan countries like Montenegro are decades behind ourselves

 

It will end up being self policed by us in the stands, I know I wouldn't stand by and watch a player being racially abused by someone nearby, I'd tackle them personally or with the assistance of others or stewards. That's the quickest way to deal with it and if we all did that it goes away for good in football grounds.

Hates it that much but will carry on for as long as he physically can.

I am not disputing that racist abuse does happen but I very rarely hear it at Oakwell. There used to be one bloke sat near us making racist comments but it was only audible to those in the immediate vicinity so the players won't have heard it.

It's in the best interests of both the media and Kick It Out to perpetuate the myth that racism is a serious problem in English football. England players get abused by Montenegrins in Montenegro - let's criticise English fans. Italian gets abused by Italians and is not supported by his Italian captain - let's criticise English fans. The fact is that this is probably the best country in the world to be any kind of minority in just about every walk of life but we still have to criticise people. Emmanuel Frimpong said it himself after playing in Russia - we don't know how lucky we are in England.

There isn’t much racism in football.
There’s a few individuals but not many.
IMO it’s all to do with what is sometimes called the 12th man.
That is to say - players will sometimes say that the crowd helped them.
But ask yourself how does the crowd help them?
What the crowd does is obviously support their own team - but importantly they also un-nerve the opposition.
And if a crowd knows that certain comments un-nerve certain players - then they will use those comments.
Hence all sorts of comments are shouted from the stands by individuals - the same individuals wouldn’t dream of saying these things away from the ground.
Billy Sharpe comments spring to mind - horrible comments - he isn’t black - he gets on with his job.

 

So your sort of saying just get on with your job don't bring it to light or talk about it.

 

Im saying the more things said - the more likelihood that some will use it in the future.

 

but you don't want to sweep it under the carpet either. I'm sure Billy would talk about it if it was a on going problem and he heard it alot of grounds he went.

There should be NO racism at football or anywhere else for that matter.
The Jacob Browne incident at Coventry I heard with my own ears and believe me the state they were in and the vitriol they weren’t t up for any member of the public whether Barnsley fan or Steward intervening .
And I’ve asked myself as you requested whether such things are helping the team and the reply I got was what a fekin stupid question .
The fact that you say they wouldn’t dream of saying it anywhere else as if to condone it says a lot about you imo.
It’s not up to the crowd to police it as that can lead to violence it’s up to the club to catch them and sort it out .
The fact that clubs try to put the emphasis on minimum waged stewards many of whom live in the community is a sell out .
It needs sorting out with intent and not some well paid people sending in low paid workers to do the job either as that is what’s happening in society the higher up the food chain the more responsibility you can **** downwards
