True . It's all about when you sell it . Take abramovitch , probably sunk 400/500 million into Chelsea with no return but when he sells up he ll probably get 1.5 billion or something like that , doubling his money at least .

Can't see them doubling their money with Barnsley though.

A great post Marlon, I agree with pretty much all of this. This combined with the clubs failure to reinforce properly when it was so evidently needed could end up costing us promotion this year. Bringing in just a couple of experienced/wily older heads in key playing positions in January, to help get us over the line, would have been the smart (though obvious) move and an entirely sensible investment in the long term - what on earth were/are the owners thinking?

I think the owners know pretty much most things but they don’t /can’t know what it takes for maintaining a promotion push in our leagues.
As I said Gauthier was a great mediator and knew how to sell the club and get the fans onside etc . Couple that with new coaches that didn’t really know our leagues and it leaves a void imo.
Someone who would know for instance that we would need a wise head on the pitch and that we’d need cover in case of injuries , suspensions etc.injuries in January .if we’d appointed an English manager or coach he would probably have conveyed that message to the board .
That’s just a guess really as Daniel or gauthier May have expressed those concerns and the board may have dismissed them who knows .
I’m all for the spreadsheet and bringing on Young hungry players but you can’t have almost a full team of naive players where opposition use experience and gamesmanship to confuse the officials etc.
A Johnny Macken would work well with this team imo,

Tom Eaves, 19 goals this season in League One, contract up in June, age 27
Ian Henderson, 18 goals this season in League One, age 34
Brett Pitman, just played two games in a week, one with 30 minutes extra time and scored 3 goals, age 31
Anyone of these three would have fitted into a rotation system and capable of scoring the goals we are now missing
All too old for the inflexible system the owners have imposed which means profit before promotion

Agree that the policy on age needs to be looked at and the club need to be more flexible. But two questions to ask is, would any of these players have left their club to be part of a rotation policy at Barnsley, and do we pay enough?

Big test of the new owners will be this close season. I think the club probably underestimated the quality of this league. As things stand, there are still 5 clubs which could reach 90 points this season, which is ridiculous. Assuming we stay in League 1, can they convince any of the players with a year left on their contract to extend, and can we get enough quality in to give us what we need next season.

Putting my tin hat on but it almost seems to me that too many on here have been waiting for us to stumble so all these things can be voiced.
We have no divine right to promotion and that`s part of the reason football is so exciting - I don`t relish the playoffs and just maybe we can still pull through but if it has to be that route then so be it.
Awaiting the flack to which I will not be responding!

You shouldn't have to put your tin hat on though mate. Not for being supportive of the club.

I don’t think it means they are above criticism to not give us the best chance of getting promoted. Why we persisted with the Miller signing is daft in my eyes so they acknowledged that we needed a player and then proceeded to carry on with a player we couldnt actually use if needed. Daft.

Don’t get the level of mistrust directed at these owner’s intentions, particularly given that all they’ve done is bought into an ethos of the previous owner who was conversely entered into the club’s hall of fame. The only difference being that they’ve actually invested a little bit in the existing infrastructure and tried to be a bit innovative in the fields of match day experience and membership and loyalty structures, all of which have historically been steadfastly ignored.

As if everyone born and bred in Barnsley has solely honourable and altruistic intentions and none of them ever made any money off us? I can think of at least two that either have done very successfully or tried to.

It’s hard to think it’s not at least a bit of old fashioned mistrust of outsiders.

No matter how supportive I am I for the love of God can't see how the business model we operate can effectively work in the championship.. For a start the aim is to bring players in cheaply sell them for a profit ideally to the league above us after they have progressed .. Promotion cuts our selling field down by 50% basically.. unless we aim to sell to our league rivals... Which we've seen already... The system Makes the owners money.. Alas we become another crew Alexander ... Churning out talent by the boat load but yet treading water re ambition...so be it.. Cup runs the high light of the season... If thats what you want as a supporter and you are happy.. Then there's not a lot to look forward to... If you want to see progress and Barnsley actually doing something other than treading water . then I suggest you get yourselves a suit of armour and brace yourselves for any flack for daring to speak out... Yes we've seen exciting football yes there's 5 games left yes anything can happen yes the new owners state publically we want to go up... But what have they actually succeeded in achieving... Up to press other than relegation and and blowing hot smoke up our backsides with promises that haven't been truly fulfilled.... My opinion... Also Jury still out on their true ambitions

The owners need to find ways to improve revenue streams without the fans suffering by players having to be sold to weaken our team, to make sure we make a profit.

Perhaps thats all part of the plan and why they are talking to the council about buying the land etc?
Maybe once they have that they can put plans into place but until then have to act accordingly.

All ifs and buts, would just be nice if they set it out so everyone knows and can get behind rather than all of us second guessing everything.
