https://www.readytogo.net/smb/threads/bookies-have-us-as-favourites-to-win-the-play-offs.1472315/ A bit surprised at that but maybe they cant afford to pay so many Sunderland fans out at better odds. Form wise I'd go with Charlton as favourites
If ever proof were needed that bookies odds are just a reflection of how much money is being laid and nothing to do with what the most likely outcome is. Sunderland are a complete shambles at the moment and have finished the season in the worst form of all the 4 teams. I would have them as outsiders not favourites.
Sunderland are going to do something exceptional to beat Pompey. Their records coming into the final games are chalk and cheese. Add to that their terrible record against them over the last dozen or so meetings and it's a big job they've got on their hands. Can't see Donny beating Charlton either. They've a chance in the home leg, but can't see them getting anything at the valley. Pompey v Charlton final for me, but difficult to pick a winner.
That’s how I see it as well. So Donny Sunderland final coming up with Donny going through on Pens Donny not beaten any of the top 5 all season by the way
Charlton for me as well. Amazing that Sunderland are favourites after finishing 5th in a 4 horse race
Didn't Donny beat Luton early in the season? Luton had a relatively slow start to the season, really hit form after we'd beaten them in October.
Had £120 in my sky bet account (got £100 the other day on a £10 scratch card, along with a bit of other winnings from other slots) Stuck £100 on Charlton. Put £10 on Pompey. Withdrew the original £10 I put in last week. Lost nothing, could end up with £375. Pays for next seasons season ticket
Brother in law always despairs if Sunderland play at Wembley, because like Sheffield United, apart from the Cup Final win v Leeds in 73 at the old Wembley, they don't do very well there. He still has flashbacks over their 1998 loss after a penalty shoot out to Charlton Athletic in what was named the " Mendonca" final again at the old Stadium. He's pleased they are in the play offs this season, but remains far from convinced that they will win them. He fancies Portsmouth whilst personally, I am leaning more towards Charlton Athletic, although to be fair, it could be premature to discount Doncaster Rovers chances.
We've a lot to do to get past Portsmouth and as everyone can see we've had a poor end to the season. Unlike many on our message board, which has gone into full meltdown mode recently, I have some hope. Ross has rested McGeady in the last two games and 3 or 4 other key players in our last game. It's a gamble but I'm hoping having those players fresh will give us a lead going into the second leg. I've said it on another thread but well done again on getting promotion, a fantastic achievement considering how competitive the league has been this season.
Am loving being a Barnsley fan right now. I can see a very nervy night at the SOL . Will MaGeady even be fit? As I understand it he hasn't been training. Kieffer for us was involved in training (bar obvious risks to his head).for a while before coming back and he didnt play full games. Ideally I'd want Donny to go up so we have another local game, given the expense of the Championship but whoever gets up will deserve it.
Looking forwards to watching the playoffs knowing we’ve already been promoted. Makes a nice change. In order of preference, Donny, Charlton, Pompey, Sunderland. In order of likelihood, Charlton, Pompey, Sunderland, Donny.
I think he will be here regardless and personally I hope he will be. People forget what a shambles we were as a club when he came in. He had to organise a team of new lower league players in with a load with zero confidence and on higher wages which I can imagine was quite a challenge. He's a young manager and will only get better with experience. Chopping and changing managers every season is not the way forward imo unless someone has failed spectacularly badly, which he hasn't. I think the new owners will back their man and he will be there next season.
Sunderland are shot to bits. Since losing Maja there is no stand out goal scorer. Grigg isn't all that and Mcgeady is playing with an injury.
You would be crackers to sack yet another Manager. I know this season is the lowest position Sunderland have ever finished in their history but that can’t be put at Ross’ door. I’d agree with you that the owners are likely to keep the faith but one of my Mac mates was saying that they are facing another potential takeover. Last thing you need.
