It’s so boring. Too much money. You don’t get your players like Sherringham Cole Henry Bergkamp Keane Viera Anymore. I generally wouldn’t want to get up there at the moment. It use to be every clubs dream. Even the championship as reached the high levels of overpaid players now. That’s the only thing I’ll miss about league 1. Proper clubs. Proper fans (including Sunderland) cocky fanbase but love there club. Lower league play offs have been and will be a lot better matches too. Aye I’m 24 turning 25 even I can say I’m struggling to move on to the times with this day an age football. Proud to be a red though and be part of a proper club and proper fans
Ive felt the same for years. I completely lost interest somewhere between 2007 and 2010. Did enjoy Leicester winning the title though.
It's definitely a dual edged sword. Can't say I'd be particularly enthusiastic about a team of 8 or 9 foreigners out of 11 representing Barnsley, a la Watford or Wolves, even if it meant a mid-table Premier League finish.
Weird argument- the money thing doesn’t bother me but I see why it does some, but to say you don’t get players like XYZ is mad- there’s a collection of historically world class players in the premier league right now as demonstrated by both European finals having all English teams without the league champions even being involved
‘I can’t enjoy this game without knowing that everyone on the pitch was born within driving distance of me’
Jacob Brown, Alex Mowatt and Jordan Williams are all Yorkshire lads. Watching the two games today, there were not many English players on the field for any of the four sides, which considering it's the English league, is a little disconcerting. Obviously the arguments about the rights and wrongs of it have been done to death, but I couldn't help feeling it's getting to the point where it's the English league only in name. None of the other top divisions in Europe have so few domestic players in the top sides.
I don’t really get your point. The footballs more entertaining than ever. We went through a phase starting in the early 2000’s for about 10 years where teams would pack the midfield & games would be battles of attrition mainly influenced by Mourinho & Rafa but Fergie joined in as well. The only team I’ve seen that come close to the current Liverpool one in terms of entertainment was Keegan’s entertainers. City aren’t far behind in terms of entertainment & neither are Spurs. You’ve listed some great players but Aguero, De Bruyne, David Silva, Eriksen, Salah, Mane, Hazard, Aubameyang etc. There’s still great players about & entertainers. A part of me misses the Keane & Vieira battles but at the same time that was only so big because it was nearly always a two horse race, it’s much better having several top teams
Sorry django but the top six next season is going to be the same as this season and in all probability the season after that too. The champions will be Man City. It bores me rigid and has done for years.
Leicester only won the league a couple of seasons ago, Chelsea won the league & finished 10th the following season. I’m not sure how you can be so confident when the leagues been anything but predictable in recent years.
This season yes. In recent seasons all of City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd, Spurs & Leicester have won or come close to winning the league. I think that compares very favourably with other top divisions around Europe. I think in the last decade there was only last season when City won it at a canter & one where Chelsea won pretty comfortably, the rest of the time it’s been great entertainment
Leicester was a one off. When did anyone else outside the top six last win the title? Do you honestly think someone like Leicester will win it next year? It's all opinion. My opinion is that I have no interest in watching a few teams steamroller the opposition week in week out and the ones with the biggest chequebooks win at the end. Granted it's more competitive than Scotland or Italy etc but it's marginal and Man City are threatening to turn a limited field into an even smaller one.
What makes us a proper club compared to PL clubs when we are owned by a multinational consortium of multi millionaires?
I agree the football city and Liverpool play is great to watch love watching them especially city. I just find the big premiership clubs Chelsea, man city,Liverpool ect are everything wrong with modern day football spending tens of millions for players to sit on bench (especially city) , hoarding young players, paying ridiculous amounts of wages to every player even youth players, sugar daddy owners, plastic fan supporters who have no affiliation with the actual city's. I actually used to like city when they were **** shaun goater, kinkladze, nicky weaver in goal and played at Maine road proper club then with proper fans their more like a commercial brand now.
