£7m on Bamford rising to £10m based on goals etc. £3m on Douglas from Wolves. Keeper was a free transfer.
I feel like I’ve read this so often it’s become just accepted. But he looks to me like someone who can’t get the players handling big games. How many important games have they folded in? Lampard changed the course of that game last night with a substitution when it was going wrong for them. Our opera glasses friend sat on his bucket.
Agree. Who would you choose: Wilder or Bielsa ? I know who I would choose. Wilder has got promoted with a fraction of the money spent at Leeds.
I was referring to the wage package agreed for the keeper. Bangor’s was r Wages for the keeper are 10 million as I understand it.
Made £40m losses last year, they paid Hecky off & have took on Bielsa & loads of new staff of his since then plus signed Bamford & whilst they may not have paid vast amounts in transfer fees they’re one of the biggest payers in the league on wages. Can’t imagine the books look good
True but to get a very average bunch of players towards the top of that league should tell you he’s got something about him Lots of top managers speak v highly of him too
Seems an honourable man as evidenced when instructing his players to let Villa score, when his team failed to kick the ball out so that an injured Villa player could recieve treatment, although Pontus Jannson appeared to have "selective" hearing.! Also, when the Club were fined £240k due to Bielsa's penchant for spying on their opposition, to his enormous credit , he promptly settled the bill out of his own pocket.
I feel like the “average budget” angle is overdone. Yes, not every club is pulling a Villa but it’s not like Sheffield Utd are paying Burton wages - they’re full of players making at least average Championship coin if not better. Norwich has to pay enough to entice all those guys to leave the Bundesliga. Leeds aren’t drawing 8000 people a game. These clubs all have decent fanbases and wealthy owners too. If Bielsa is a world renowned manager and can’t work his magic to get the second biggest club up maybe he’s not so magical after all.
Agreed. But it’s not just the amount being paid out. Also consideration has to be made of how long a owner can sustain that amount. We have seen the same thing at Sheffield Wednesday. We also saw it with McCabe at Sheffield United- they stopped spending. Wilder has got them promoted in spite of that. The Leeds owner isn’t mega rich. Hence the reliance to some degree on the academy players. I was told that the Bielsa appointment was a boom or bust decision to get promotion. That information might be wrong - so let’s see what the transfer activity is like at Leeds this season.
I don't think they're in as much of a financial mess as this thread would lead you to believe, but it doesn't look good. The owners of the San Francisco 49'ers essentially paid for Bamford, and the owner has released shares to generate a further £11 million without diluting current share value (don't ask me to explain that - just quoting what I've read/heard). I don't think Bielsa will stay which will be their biggest challenge, and I think a couple of their young players will leave this Summer too, so the future doesn't look bright but I don't think it looks like financial ruin/trouble either. There's rumours the person buying these £11 million shares is looking at Leeds, Villa, QPR and Forest for more investment.
Regarding Bielsa and him being at Leeds next season. He is meeting the Board and in today's paper, he says " I am prepared to listen." Sounds as though he's going otherwise, surely he would have confirmed that he wants to stay.
Don't think so mate they spent 10 million on bangord who looked crap last night but they sold Chris wood for 18million and didn't spend much of that. I don't think they are skint if they are they will cash in on jack Clarke in the summer.
Chairman is on about fooking off apparently. Put 30 million of his own money in the last two seasons and doesn’t want to spend anymore.
Could end up skint again then, bielsa didn't sound too confident he was staying last night when asked.
