I've never made a secret of the fact that personally I don't think he's quite " got it".
Steve Bruce and Dean Smith didn't pick him to play regularly which at his age and stage
of development you might have expected that they would have. He's good when going forward,
but unless he's improved, for me, his defensive qualities left a lot to be desired.

The kudos some of our fans give players simply because they used to play for us is so strange. If villa had signed him from donny and he the exact same record no one would give him a second thought.

It's a strange one, because I always rated the lad and thought he had real potential. Not in the Stones class, but still I was sure he'd do well in his career. Instead he's disappeared. Has he had injury problems? Or were Villa awash with right-backs? Or was it simply a step up too soon?

Think he needs to be playing regularly.

Too injury prone. I suspect Dougal will be same but I'm hoping not.

He moved a season too early. One more season with us would have benefitted us (and him) more financially and on the playing side he would have been primed to step up.

As it stood, time has proved he was just not quite ready for a top-end Champ team.

With Cav and William's both showing good form last season, I'd be very surprised if we went out to sign another right back. I can see it being strategic spending rather than scatter gun approach to sign anyone who might be available. Is he any better than what we already have? I'm not so sure.

Another guy induced by money to move too early. Result - wastes two seasons at a critical time in his development. Still probably made his agent a buck or too.

If Bree’s is on the reported £20k a week then his contract is worth over £4.5m. What 19 year old already having fitness issues is going turn that down

If we buy him back, do we still get a sell-on fee?
    Just asking...:)

The guy had his leg broken and even then tried to play on.

Dougall's injuries were both caused by heavy impacts. Just unlucky. Compare that with Isgrove, who could pull his hamstring going to the bog in the night. Bree also seemed to pick up knocks very easily, but I seem to remember our physio saying it was more to do with his age and something he would grow out of. Maybe it was a marketing ploy to sell him for decent money like...

Fair enough but it's not really the same. Playing whilst injured is, amongst other aspects, a brave and courageous thing to do. Being injury prone can be down to all kinds of other considerations; fitness, getting "stuck in", just being unlucky or all of the above.
