Named in Steve Clarke's first Scottish squad. We have been linked, as he reputedly has a £50k get-out clause in his contract, but other clubs reported as interested. This selection will have increased his prospects and probably decreased ours.
Amount of goalies we've been linked with makes you wonder if we are going to see 10 at the back with one out field player... Just like it was when I was a kid in the park. ... As long as you shouted out.. I'm int nets you could change goalies as many times as you wanted lol
And speaking of Scottish goalies, I could never work out what happened to Frank Haffey, the unfortunate keeper in the 9-3 defeat of Scotland by England at Wembley. He moved to Swindon Town after the season ended, but only played half a dozen games and then disappeared. There was no trace of his going back to a Scottish club. I discovered the truth in s story told by Alan Mullery about Denis Law, who was in that same Scottish team. Denis was visiting Australia and staying in hotel when reception rang his room to say that a friend had turned up and was asking for him. Denis asked what name and was told Frank Haffey, which Denis could not remember. Anyhow, he went down to reception to meet the man and was greeted by the call from Frank, 'Denis, is it safe for me to come home yet?' Followed by 'England 9, Scotland 3' and it was then that Denis remembered who Frank Haffey was. He had never returned to Scotland on leaving Celtic and had become a sheep rancher in the Australian outback!! Such as happens to goalies. True story, I am told.
Mc burnie is included in the squad and according to BBC text he plays for Barnsley! Hope its true and not just lazy journalists again.
