Anyone used one? After opinions as i am off for a family holiday of a lifetime to Bali in a months time and had this recommended to use.
Yep. Revolut works well but I’d be taking a look at Monzo and Starling before them. Revolut is not covered under the Financial Services Compensation Scheme in the unlikely event of anything going wrong.
I have used a We Swap card recently and that seems to work well. The only thing to watch out for is make sure it covers some of the more remote currencies.
I’ve had Revolut a couple of years now. Been faultless so far. Great on long work trips last year. Some colleagues had Monzo, which seems to do the same thing.
I have Monzo & Revolut, but lean towards Monzo as had some difficulties with Revolut being accepted in a couple of places. Be aware, that if ever duplicate transactions are put through and the retailer provides a refund. This could take up to a week. Does eventually come through, but if its a big ticket item, yoiu can be short of that money for a week.
I use Monzo, really easy to use, accepted in most places and rates are good. Only drawback is that they reduced the amount of currency you can draw out without charge to £200 a month so if you need cash then Monzo is not perfect.
Had Revolut and it worked fine but got spooked as it isn’t covered by FCFS protection. Now on Monzo and works a treat. I think Starling offers you better money withdrawals abroad but I prefer Monzo’s app interface.
Nothing but praise for Revolut, I got one for a recent trip to Vegas... group of us all had them... was superb for splitting bills etc. *make sure you activate swiping in the settings... Just in case Bali is like the States, they don’t really do chip and pin or contactless over there.
You may be able to assist me. I’ve just got one and I’ve been charged for taking money out of cash points. The wife has never been charged for using hers from the same cashpoints. Ever come across this before? TIA
The charge may have been levied by the ATM handler not Revolut. It’s pretty common abroad (especially USA) to be charged to withdraw cash. Were you warned at the time of withdrawal? All these cards are better used as debit cards and not cash cards.
Have you looked on the tripadvisor bali forum? Some invaluable advice from locals and tourists who will let you know what's best to use.
Yeah it warned me but I wondered why it didn’t charge the wife. In that case I’ll use it as a debit from now on. Thanks mate
Nothing but praise for Revolution. I even manage to make a few bob transferring pounds to dollars when the rate is high and selling back when the rate drops again. No cost exchange and top rates. Had an issue once when I had location security enabled on the app, but didn’t have a mobile signal cos data roaming cost a fortune in Borneo. Absolutely no issue elsewhere. That said, didn’t realise it wasn’t covered by FCFS.
Client funds are stored under a segregated trust account at Barclays/Lloyd's. Your money is not covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. As an FCA authorised institution, Revolut safeguards your funds as per FCA requirements, the Electronic Money Regulations 2011, and the Payment Services Regulations 2017.
