I hate cycling but I have heard about this incident. Based entirely on what I have heard, it sounds like the cyclist simply reacted to an act of stupidity by the spectator. He didn't beat the cr@p out of him or prolong the attack so I'd say that his reaction can be justified as a heat of the moment reaction.

I thought it was acceptable in the heat of the moment. It might make these morons think on in future but I doubt it. I think it should be legal to taser the fans who shout into the faces of the riders while running alongside them. Pointless and stupid behaviour.

Not really acceptable but I wouldn't throw him out. Understandable rather than acceptable. I'd ask Lopez to apologise then use the incident to highlight that spectators are there to watch not to get involved in the race.

Always hated the fact that some people think that it is ok to run alongside the riders, causing a nuisance to both riders and other spectators who are keeping a respectful distance. It was only a matter of time before something like this happened and tbh I think the spectator should be thankful that he knocked down a climber like Lopez as opposed to one of the bigger sprint guys like Greipel who could probably but a bit of weight behind any punch he threw.

There's no way you're going to react in a competitive sport environment where you're trying to summon up aggression to beat your opponents in the same way as you would in normal life.
    I hope he isn't banned.

Pavements are for walking on and taking your dog for a walk or taking your very young child on his stabilised first bike, Roads are for Cars, Vans, Lorries and adult bike riders. Roads are very dangerous and for me, a person using one on a bike should have insurance like all other users and that includes Hosses.

Why would a cyclist need insurance?

You know Sheffield. I assume so. So you’ll know how steep it is from arundel gate to the station. Cyclists bomb down there with absolutely **** all consideration for pedestrians.

They hit someone at the speed they are going, upwards of 20mph, they’ll do them some damage.

That’s why they should be insured.

No, and yes some cyclist frustrate the **** out of me just as much as idiots driving cars do at times, but I dont blow up when cyclists are using the road, providing they are taking as much consideration and care towards me as I do them

Probably same as other road uses need it in the event of an accident to there vehicle/ self or other road users. If your vehicle was hit and damaged by a cyclist who pays for the damage ?

Generally a house insurance policy covers personal liability. If the cyclist has house insurance.

If not, then the cyclist would still be liable but from their own pocket.

The cyclist. How many vehicles need extensive repairs after being hit by a cyclist?
