Clarkey second time round. Chuckled at Aggy. Forgot he had hair. :). Who’s the lad between Futcher and law. Probably kick missen.

Would that be circa 1983? Futcher was and still is the best centre half I've seen playing for Barnsley.

Yup, it's the team photo for the start of the 1985/86 season.

Ah Paul Futcher, a veritable Rolls-Royce of a player.

Clarkeys second spell was between 1985 and 1989. My first ever Barnsley game was the 5-2 home win against
AFC Bournemouth ( Currie scored four) and that was in the November of 1988.

Apparently Jeffels came through our Youth system and played three games in the first team during the 83/84 season
before leaving us in the July of 1988 to sign for Carlisle United. That means the above pic was taken sometime
between 1985 and the end of the 1988 season.

Totally agree with you MK regarding Paul Futcher. Possibly one of the most cultured defenders ever to don
our famous Red shirt. I personally never saw him ever have a bad game. We made a big mistake when we
let him go to Halifax, who then sold him for £10k to Grimsby in 1991, where he turned in his usual performances for
    another five seasons.

Why did Glav only play 6 games that season? I remember feeling elated that he'd come back but then he seemed to vanish.

His contract was cancelled after he'd been brought back in the Summer from Portugal. The first sign that the club was in severe financial difficulties.

Stuart Gray was top scorer that season for us I believe.

Ian Walsh was the top scorer that season, followed by David Hirst and Gordon Owen. All three were transfered out of the club a few days before the start of the following season. Stuart Gray was top scorer for the 1986/87 season. A campaign where he played full back, centre half, midfield and striker.

    Now he was a player.
Would love this board to have been in existence that summer we sold our top three goalscorers. It would have gone through meltdown to white dwarf and black hole proportions.
I seem to remember being pretty aghast myself!
