Meks me laugh this, lets sell a player we know inside and out and buy a player nobodys heard of, but hes foriegn so he must be ace. Same as we all seemed to be buzzin when Lindsay went cos weve bought a player from Denmark nobodys heard of, hes already Bobby Moore way some folk talk and he ant kicked a ball yet. Dunt get me wrong he may be a reight laiker but just dunt get the clamour to sell our best players, sick of it to be honest like.
There are a multitude of reasons, chiefly we're a small club with a restrictive wage structure so if a player wants out then we're pretty powerless to stop it. I don't know why people get so annoyed about this, it's how we survive... until gates and revenue improve to the point where we can start paying players better wages while still meeting FFP regulations and keeping our head above water. Just deal with it. This is us. Rich owners doesn't equate to a rich club.
Keifer is a great lad and a 100% player, but he's barely Championship class. Macca had him sown up. If he can do well for himself good luck to him. He has to try it. But Brizzle will be disappointed. Lindsay is likewise not irreplaceable. Good defender, but he lacks Championship pace. What is vital is the quality of who is brought in to fill these positions.
Usually because the player wants to leave for more money because we are poor at increasing revenue streams without the need to sell to break even. We can't get too sentimental towards our players. Davies stayed for five years and that's like testimonial time in this era of our club. If we think bringing someone in will make us better than we can't be too loyal to current players.
Now youve said it, im absolutley going to deal with us selling our best players for less than they are worth.
Will Grigg was 3 million. Advantage to him is Bristol is nearer home. Not sure he wants to leave though
Macca who also played Frank Nouble for how many games? I disagree about Kieffer though. He’s a handful whatever division and offers us something different that some clubs in the championship don’t have, hence why they’re rumoured to be wanting him. I think a full season with us and Kieffer could get close to 15 goals.
3 Mill... That could be the clause written into his contract that allows him to talk to other clubs.. (and I don't mean santa)... If he wants to go he will... Unfortunately news for some fans is we have a policy that won't break the pay structure and bankrupt the club Maybe if the FA penalised the clubs that are massively in debt and bending rules by cheating and false accounting and leveled the playing field so to speak... We may one day just maybe hold on to our better players....
Agree he's a handful RCT. Not too sure about the number of goals he might score mind. If he could improve his first touch and try at least to get the ball under control and attempt to hit the target as consistently as he is able when he gets in a position to work an opening , he might fare better. There's no doubt, the Championship is a big step up from League One, but because he's not done too well up there in the past, doesn't mean to say that he will struggle this time around. Over three seasons, he's made a total of 51 appearances and scored 8 league goals in the Championship, for Yeovil Town, Ipswich and ourselves. He failed to score in 11 appearances for Ipswich, which could explain why Big Mick was critical of him. For me, any striker is only as good as the players around him and in order to be successful in the goal stakes, you rely on good service from your team mates. If Kieffer stays with us and I hope that he does, as far as the Championship goes, once our squad is fully known, he could well be supplied by better players than those he has played alongside previously and hopefully, his Championship goals to games ratio could improve.
Yeah, his history in the championship isn’t the greatest as you say but I would hazard a guess (without fact checking it) that a fair amount of this appearances he has are sub appearances where’s he’s been shoved on near the end because of his height. I would be hoping that he’s taking the confidence from the league one season into the upcoming season in the championship. As I mentioned earlier in the thread too, he acts as a good partner for Cauley and even if Kieffer doesn’t score as many as he’d like but causes havoc so that Cauley can score a decent amount, then I’d be okay with that.
