Does seem a bit odd. Reckon there would be league 1 teams willing to snap him up

Some complete OTT reactions. I would rather him stay, more than I did Linday.

However. He is unproven at championship level and in the last 12 months of his contract. I'd argue that there are better players out there for a similar outlay of £3 million..

How about the club adopting a 1 year contarct with additional 1 year option on brilliant young players. If you take the £3 million from a transfer, bring someone in equally as good (there are plenty) base that on a £2m transfer and £19k per week for the year. Then decide on the option at year end. Also write into the contract a minimum £5m release clause.

Think people are also under estimating the rest of the players still here. I would say that it was not only Pinnock, Lindsay and Davies who allowed us to keep clean sheets. People suggesting they are the only reason are doing our other players an injustice. Look at the turf covered by the likes of Mowatt, Brown etc. We have played some superb attacking football which has taken the pressure off our defensive game and given our defenders a much easier ride than I would have expected. I was surprised at how we demolished some teams who offered nothing in terms of an attacking threat.

So I fully trust that the players we bring in to replace any wantaways will do the job for us. Anderson could be twice the player Pinnock or Lindsay is, so could any other.

Lets just let the staff get on with the job of putting a team together for the season and pass judgement afterwards. I think we are building a good squad and certainly no knocking the board for not putting the club in financial strife offering 20k per week just because a player gets his head turned. That will lead to only one thing, the end of Barnsley FC.

Maybe it's that such a strict policy is not a good idea.

In fairness there was a caveat in Conway’s language - it wasn’t definitive....although we all know it is...

We kind of knew offers would come in....it's just it appears we have sold him at half his value (if £3 m is the price).
As someone else stated pompy had no probs getting £5million for Clarke...wtf!!
Pinnock was better than him by at least £1million.

If the fee is ‘significantly more’ then I, as I have said, don’t have an issue.

Unfortunately you are the only person on here or anywhere who has suggested this, I have no reason to doubt you though I also have no reason to doubt Sky’s accuracy.

If we got more like £5million then fair enough.

I don’t think we are though.

Totally agree.Just accept it like all clubs have to.Weve lost better players than these over the past 30yrs and are still a championship side. What is more important is loyal fans who stay with the club through times of change.Hopefully the club get it right, and these players become just a good memory.

Brentford will be offering him more than 10k a week and he can move back to his home city. We generally struggle to get our very best players to sign new contracts after their original one. I was hoping this would change with the new owners, but it's not looking like it. Even with a year left I would have a problem if it's only three million too as he's significantly better than Lindsay.

At least we are now handing out 4 year contracts with a fifth year in our favour. We know now that if one of them plays two years with us as a championship regular it's going to take far bigger sums than Lindsay/Pinnock fees to take them off us with them still being only half way through their contracts.

Some good points made here, but the fact remains that if this is true we've lost our goalkeeper and all three of our central defenders, and we're not even through the first week in July.

At least last time round we waited until January before dismantling the team so we could get some points on the board first.

I only hope we have leaked the less than 3m figure with a view to doing more favourable deals on the incoming players

Unlikely, but I guess it’s possible

It will be lucky if we spend £1 million on his replacement, never mind £3 million.

Well I was told it was closer to £2.5m rising to £3m. Crazy times.

What did we sign him for £500k? Don't forget it is Barnsley who keep moulding these players, so if he moves on we do the same again.

Club is in good hands. Looking forward to the start of the season.

What about offering our players a percentage of any future fee over say 5m if they sign a new contract, this way they will still get sold at some point but it would benefit them the higher the fee is, giving them extra incentive to do well.
A longer contract gives them an instant pay rise with the possibility of maybe 15% of any future fee over say 5m.
Gives club and player a bit of stability and a massive incentive to do well.

Or he may be out of his depth in the championship and they waste £3m
