Ethan Pinnock Joins Brentford Club News Defender leaves Oakwell after two years, for an undisclosed fee. Continue reading on the official site...
We really don't help ourselves. Unless this is another clause in the contract a la Potts, it's very disheartening to see the club seemingly accepting the first bid on the table.
Looking forward to at least 5 million getting reinvested back into the team this summer then. If the owners are good to their word that we are selling anyone who won't sign a new deal with 12 month left on their contract then they should also stick to reinvesting any money earnt from player sales. Lets wait and see.
It is sad - but IMO this decision has come about more because he wanted to move back south. What’s more worrying is that we are STILL giving players away cheaply.
If the club has calculated how much they can stretch to wage wise, then they probably had their hands tied. If other clubs in our position are offering more, I'd be questioning their financial stability in doing so. I'm gutted he's left but it's more an indictment of football today re: loyalty and how money talks than perhaps our club. Saying that, if we are offering less money than we can afford then I wouldn't be happy with the club.
Like it has been pointed out, likely to have had a release clause in his contract to trigger talks. That contract was nothing to do with our current owners. You only have to look at our recent dealings to understand the position they are in. Players signing 4 yr deals with 5th option. Pinnock will be replaced and we may end up stronger as a result. He was a very good league 1 player no doubt and wish him well he will probably become a decent champ player.. do I think he was a world beater though? Nope. Sometimes used to terrify me with what looked like a clumsy style. Complete faith in the management and board to replace with someone just as good. My faith spans from the season we have just had.
We offered Ethan a number of contract extensions but unfortunately, we were not able to convince him to stay. As I have stated before, the club will sell a player with less than one year left on their contract if they will not accept our contract extension offer. We believe we have mitigated this issue of shorter term contracts, as in the last 18 months and going forward most of the young players we have acquired have been signed to four or five-year deals.
If you’ve no concern with starting the new season with a fraction of the key assets that made us successful last season, as they are sold for a fraction of their worth, that’s your business. It does not, however, make you somehow superior and mature as you appear to be trying to frame it.
shows they tried their best and he just wanted more money like most players.......... Good luck to him, cracking centre half but not worth breaking bank over.
His fee will probably cover a solid replacement, and a few years of that replacement’s wages, if the three million figure mentioned is correct. We will be fine.
Exactly my point... Previous owners negotiated the original contract. What we are now doing is far better. End of the day, player didn't want to stay so we move on with a healthy profit. Mr Conway does state that all the profit will go into this transfer window which again is positive.
He was signed by Cryne who unfortunately didn't have the money to offer longer contracts, not much the current owners can do but offer him new terms, which they did. Nobody knows when the new contract offers were.
To be fair though, the largest fraction of key assets are still with the club. Lindsay, Davies and Pinnock are all replaceable.
