Nearly as quickly as a lot of people on here. I liked him, I thought he was a good player, but I thought the hype was over the top.

After a week when many people were singing his praises I decided I'd concentrate my attention on Pinnock at the game that Saturday. He was flawless. Imperious. As close to a perfect performance as I'd ever seen. And other than one ten minute lapse in the game at home to Sunderland, he was pretty much perfect in every other game for the rest of the season.

I've seen some fantastic centre halves play for Barnsley: McCarthy, Evans, May, Futcher, Taggart, de Zeeuw, Mawson, and plenty of others. Pinnock is the best I've ever seen.

Pinnock was always leaving this summer. That's not hindsight talking, check my post history. But £3 million just isn't enough. We may well get some very good defenders in as replacement. There's no reason why we can't do well this season. But none of that will change that Pinnock was very special, we've lost him and for not very much money at all.

He was the best player on the books 5 fold but the fact remains that he wanted to leave for significantly more wages than we were rightly prepared to pay. Shame as he’s a 15 million pound player in the making but he’s gone so let’s get on with it.

Agree with all of that. He was absurdly consistent

Agree 3 million is poor when pompey have just got 5million for their center half with a year left on his contract. Didn't Brentford sell a center back for a ridiculous amount last Jan? Seems we have rolled over and had our bellys tickled.

Got to be one of those dreaded transfer clauses again as why would we sell to the first team that made an offer without trying to start a bidding war.

Ethan is an outstanding centre half and I've thoroughly enjoyed watching him play for us. But no way is he the best I've ever seen play for Barnsley, not in my opinion. That doesn't stop me from rating him highly and being gutted he's left.

Thought he was a little susceptible to a ball knocked over the top or thru the channels when up against a pacy forward, pace not his strong point. Clutching at straws maybe, 3m is still too cheap tho.

Our transfer policy is so public that other clubs know we will sell so they see no reason to offer us top dollar, they know our owners know f’kall about football and take the pi55 accordingly.

but it may have been that there was a release clause of £3 million, Jay. There have been cash release triggers in a lot of our contracts. I am sad to see them go , but better to get 6 figure sums than bugger all. I would hope that we have negotiated a sell on/ add-on clause in recent transactions.

I wish the club would say if there was a clause. Not sure what they stand to lose - it provides clarity and gets the fans off their back

    Macca and Evans, best partnership.
Futch and De Zeeuw probably best footballing individuals (defensively).

Pinnock would have been up there with them at the end of this coming season.

Could it be that they applied these clauses to get them to stay last season?
    Just a thought

I have to agree. Ethan is a quality centre half and I don't think we have got anywhere near his real value but he is not the best I've seen - that accolade still belongs to Futcher.

He does appear to be undervalued, really enjoyed watching him play especially when in the majority of games he played on the right, not his 'natural' side. Best wishes to him.

Completely agree. He was on a different level and £3m is a horrendous fee.
