Should have called his bluff be prepared to demote players who don't sign extended contracts don't hang on to see if they change there mind.
Totally annoyed with players that don't want to be part of something successful get a decent wage .is the Barnsley image that bad that players put other clubs before ours once they get successful.
How can you get behind players knowing that the Barnsley success formula will give them opertunities to move on.some football clubs in our league are no better with wage structure.
Agree with board tying players down to 4 year contracts would be viable.
But why are we not getting same as other teams for sale of a player that's equally as good i.e Luton

There’s no bluff to be called , his agent knows exactly what he can do .

Not sure about that JP. DS top bloke, top Coach. He deserves better than staying in charge of a Club now run by Mr M Mouse. Should look after himself only and seek away as soon as possible.

Corrected. Show me any examples to the contrary. There is no benefit to these people owning our football club and taking profits from it to the club.

What do you mean? There is no benefit to the owners putting their own money in, or no benefit to the club if the owners don't? Sorry, trying to understand..

F*ck me. It’s the 2 July and we’ve already mislaid 3 centre backs and a Goalkeeper from a side that had the best defensive record in the Division last season. The combined sum we’ve received being (in football terms) about 54 pence. There’s a bit of evidence for you on the current situation.
If you want something a little more long term how about looking at what’s happened in the past three seasons with our ‘transfer/fire sale’ policy.
Or even longer term. Over 130 years as a football league team. The Club that has spent more seasons at this level than any other in history. Seasons in the top flight? Well, you might know that one.
    Que sera sera.

If players refuse new contracts what do you expect them to do? Bundle them into a van and hold them hostage until they sign? All footballers and their agents are mercenaries.

If another club is spending beyond its means like probably the vast majority are, we cannot compete.

So we call his bluff. Stick him in the reserves.
Next young, talented player we try to recruit his agent says..."what happened to Ethan Pinnock then? No thanks we'll go elsewhere."

The problem with this, is when attracting players it would appear we are being sold to the player as a ‘we can develop you to earn you your next good contract etc’. If that’s true you can’t blame players to expect this to be honoured.

That sounds like a serious question so can I give a view. The answers are different depending on how we’ve dealt with each player so: I thought Davies should have been offered an extension on his contract last Summer when he wanted one. He wasn’t so I don’t blame him for not signing one when he was belatedly offered one at Xmas. Result, we lost an excellent Keeper for Zilch.
I think all our players have a saleable value. The judgement we have to make is whether what we are offered is sufficient. So,
Lindsay. Net profit around £1.5m. Pinnock. Net profit around £1.9m. Jackson. Given away for a Blackie’s egg.
Question. Do I think those four represent good deals for the Club? Many do - I don’t. I would have rather kept the squad together and taken my chances on them performing over the season in the Championship. As it is we’re starting the season with another untested set of players in key positions and we’ve signaled to those that remain,, and the coaching staff, that we lack any kind of meaningful ambition. That didn’t work too well in 17/18.

We kept the squad together in the summer after previous promotion. Which led to an exodus in the next two transfer windows.

Getting players to sign for us because they think they can achieve things here, rather than see us purely as a stepping stone is going to take some time.

Pinnock didn't want to play for us any more, he was never going to extend his contract. Better to get rid now than in January, and better to get rid for 3m now, than for 5m an hour before the deadline passes.

Or put him in the stocks and pelt him with rotten eggs?
punish him for having the temerity to want to return to his home city?

He didn't want to stay, don't know how many times it has to be repeated before it gets through to some folk. The club tried hard to keep him, made several offers, but he didn't want to stay!

So, for a player who was adamant he wanted to leave, who has only played 15 Championship games for us, and refused all offers to extend his contract, we made in the region of £2.5 million profit and have a sell on clause too.

I think that's about the best we could hope for, a good season in League 1 doesn't necessarily extend into the league above anyway so I think the club got what was a decent deal in the circumstances.

And we're signing some good long term contracted players too so the board IS splashing the cash

Ethan Pinnock, Hoyland Reds player of the year didn't take his trophy home!
The writing was on the wall some time ago.
Hopefully our new signings will fit in nicely and get us off to a solid start. Only time will tell, just relax and enjoy the ride.
