3 now gone. Remaining 2 full backs were chopped and changed during the last season. So nothing left to hang our hat on. Anyone think our owners' priority really is anything other than profit? Actions speak louder than words, as they say. If it is only still sell to survive, then plus ca change. A bit disappointing.
If players won't sign new deals i'm all for selling them and replacing them. The owners have been clear on this all along. Davies left we brought in 2 keepers. Pinnock and Lindsay wouldn't sign new deals and were sold. The club brought in Simmick and Anderson. Aapo Halme is rumoured to be nearly a done deal. He'll probably replace Jackson. Going back further Bradshaw was sold we brought in Woodrow. The club also brought in Dougall and Bahre. Williams, Styles and Miller. Potts wanted out so was sold as was Moncur. The club thought the squad was strong enough. It was as it turned out. If Cavare, Pinillos and Thiam don't agree new deals they will no doubt be sold too. I'm excited to see more new recruits coming in rather than dwelling on players that wanted out. The way we played last season keeping hold of Mcgeehan, Woodrow, Bahre, Williams, Brown, Mowatt is as good if not better than new signings too. I'm glass half full.
We've let go the best defence we've had in years. This is down to money. Because this is what football boils down to. Every now and then I get seduced into a romantic notion that we might wish to build a team that aspires to being beyond a yo-yo club. What with having so called billionaires in charge. But if they only spend as much as they make in transfers, if they don't actually spend more than they get back, it might as well be me using my own bank account. As Meat Loaf said "I can do that". It's called hope. False hope. Silly me. ~thinking anything has changed.
Spot on. What they get in fees will not be reinvested in its entirety, and they will not be putting their own money in. We would be better off being fan owned as they are providing us with absolutely 0 benefit as it stands but taking the cream off the top.
Yep it's disappointing but I'm remaining positive we'll sign adequate replacements. If the long term strategy is simply buy, develop, get promoted, sell, get relegated, rebuild ad infinitum then I'm not sure how long my positivity will last.
I don't think they will actually take any money out of the club, as it would likely be such little amounts (to them) that it wouldn't be worth it. I agree not all money will be re invested into the playing squad directly. Simply because if we went and brought in a £3m player the wages would be too high. I suspect the long term goal is to grow the club and show it to be profitable to sell it on a large profit.
It's looking like we are going to have a centre-half pairing of Andersen and Halme this season. A lot of potential there, but very inexperienced and a learning curve for both the level and English football in general. I'm not envisaging many clean sheets this season. The sort of replacements we bring in usually need a couple of seasons until we see the best of them. Woodrow has been one of the exceptions.
Just can’t see Sibbick being a planned starter with only a handful of games under his belt in his career, would hope he’s for the future/back up
