    The account of the unknown"Gay Footballer" has been deleted. Genuinely not shocked at all, I believe it was someone who started it and ended up shocked how it took off, nearly had 50k followers at the point of deleting it. I don't believe a footballer was ever behind it, based on the fact he started offering interviews to 12/13 year old kids once he had gone public? Sempt odd a footballer would even know of them? Maybe just me been a cynic.

    Don't get this sudden obsession with gay footballers. If they're gay so what. It won't make my cornflakes taste any better.

    Initially when it got posted I thought it could be a footballer inspired by PRIDE but when he spoke of talking to his manager and the manager reassuring him that he would still get game time and being gsy would make no difference I thought hoax. Discrimination law in this country would make it illegal for a manager not to play him for that reason. Seemed the poster likes a lit if attention and intrigue.

    The initial poster said he was offering interviews to 13 year old kids? That's how the Adam Johnson thing spiralled out of control. That all started on social media.

    What a surprise - or not. I must admit I always doubted it was genuine - if a gay footballer really did want to come out thats a pretty dumb way to do it

    slight segway - why is it OK for women footballers to be gay but not men - I read the US captain is gay and rightly no one seems to be the slightest bit interested

    It might be that men are turned on by the thought of a bit of girl on girl but two blokes giving each other one doesn't float their boat.

    It was one kid who has built up a following for doing interviews on youtube etc.

    Bit of a stretch for people to suggest he is a paedophile. If genuine then being nice by offering a scoop to this prospective journalist, if a hoax probably an attempt to increase likes/ credibility.

    It felt fake right from the off, suppose the positive is its shown how much support a footballer would have if they chose to come out.
    While I agree with all the people who say it shouldn't be a issue and no one should have to declare their sexuality. Sadly that is not the world we live in. Gay footballers are possibly feeling the need to hide who they are, this must be a horrible way to live.

    It could be that there are far less narrow minded people that watch women’s football: and I am not saying that all football fans who watch the men’s game are homophobic, but I refer to some elements of the Millwall fraternity as an example and probably the reason why.

    If a player did happen to come out as gay, it genuinely wouldn't bother me in slightest. I wouldn't feel the need to support them extra because they were gay, nor would I support them less. But what if, there isn't actually a player within the professional game that is actually gay? Does the game need a gay player that much for it to carry on? The current day we live in is the most accepted I think being gay has ever been for anyone, I might be wrong on that as I'm not a gay person so someone might correct me on how it currently is. But from what I've seen it seems and so it should be accepted by a lot more people than against.

    I agree it is much more acceptable but they will still get a tonne of abuse from fans for it. Just because progress has been made doesn't mean we should stop there :)
