It's a wake up call, it lets the team and management know that those games we won in Germany and France were just playground games. There are issues with the defence and there are issues with complacency. Hopefully that bloody nose will sort them out.
Who's complacent? And who thought we'd win? Last thing that is needed on Saturday imo is the crowd getting on their backs if things dont instantly go our way.
I think folk put way too much stock in the results of friendlies. The results are just an aside. Friendlies for me are about getting the team to gel, trying new things and running an eye over fringe players.
Agree. Stendel also had stated desire for an experienced defender. I'm hoping the board has bit more pressure on them to come up with something after Saturday
I wouldn't say we got dicked either. Scoreline didn't reflect a lot of the play. They were more clinical that's all and a bit better decision making from us it would have been a lot closer.
So the games in France and germany were just playground games but the united game wasnt. They all had the same relevance all freindlys.
I'm sure if Stendel has gone on record the club are actively seeking someone - and where the conspiracy theorists are wrong is that if we don't get something it won't be because the board don't listen or don't care - it'll just be because we couldn't get what we wanted for the budget.
Chuffing hell !!! Stendel be wishing he staying in Germany - black eyes, teeth knocked out and now a bloody nose.
I don't know about any of that but hope he does get what he wants as can't help but think he's right that even just one older head to help organise at the back world be useful
I think people hearing 'experienced' are imagining 'older' due to their own opinions of what's required. This is a very tight team of young workmates who've mostly already gelled; do you honestly think introducing a much senior bloke earning twice what they are would be a positive for the team? I'd consider it the greatest gamble they could take. The club show no signs of changing a plan that's proven - and are on the record as saying 'experienced doesn't necessarily mean old'. I have to say this squad showed more resolve when falling behind than any I've seen at Barnsley in the last 20 years - they show a level of 'maturity' often lacking in many 'older' players. The new lads will take a while to settle - but I'm confident we've bought improvements on what we had.
Yeah, I think "experienced" in our case will be a 25 year old with plenty of champ experience... Which would definitely mean breaking our transfer record.
Definitely Don't see any issue with 25 year old joining the group. Think may be a valid point that someone of that ilk may break our wage structure and it wouldn't be good idea to have someone paid vastly more than everyone else but will see what comes of it
Spoke to an armchair Villa fan today who was invited to the match by a Blade season ticket holder. His opinion was that first half Barnsley were the better side. 2nd half Utd strengthened their side when subbing and we weakened ours by subbing.
