Statistically, the better educated you are, the more likely you are to have voted Remain. It was significantly more of an indicator of vote than any other factor.

I don’t wonder. Not for long anyway.

Would uk central government have funded it? No.

Cardiff maybe different due to the Barnett formula.

    according to YouGov
68% of people with University Degrees voted remain.
70% of those with up to GCSE level voted Leave.
those up to A levels - equal split.

Be careful with jumping to the conclusion that those better educated are more likely to make the better decisions - that's a tad elitist!
(we all know that the well-educated ?? old-Etonians don't always make the best leaders)

I suggest you read all of my post, in which I made it very clear that I perfectly respected that some people had legitimate reasons to vote to leave (even if I disagree with them), and that I wasn’t attacking all of the leave vote.

You voted leave. Good for you. You didn’t do it for the reasons the majority of people in the areas round South Yorkshire did.

I don’t know if you live in Wales now or are local and of welsh origin. If you live around here I am sure you are perfectly aware that whilst voting leave puts you in the majority, your reasoning for doing so, whilst probably better thought out than others, does not match the majority of the weight of opinion which swayed the decision around here. The fact you voted out for the reason you did does not mean that I (and everyone else who’s said the same) am wrong about the majority of the vote in this area, by which I mean Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and the surrounding areas.

I actually agree with your concerns about the EU. It does need reform in my view.

But it concerns me that leaving it will mean that the EU lose little in terms of power, but has less back argument against the likes of Russia.

I am proud to be from where I am and don’t desire to leave - though under uk central government this region will not be invested in sufficiently if at all.

Out of EU legislation the sitting government also has the power to worsen workers rights as we have seen with nobody to curb them. And that sitting government is very likely to do so for the foreseeable as Labour will not win an election anytime soon, especially now they get no seats in Scotland.

I have massive reservations about the EU, but I I’ve much bigger reservations about the U.K. outside of the EU, under right wing governments hugely influenced by media moguls and the USA. Scotland, Wales, NI partially protected by Barnett; the South East Of England fine, but the rest of England? It is a frightening prospect.

So do I think you have limited intellect? I’ve no idea. Your post suggests not.

That does not mean I cannot assert the opinion that a lot of the people who happened to vote the same way you did - for entirely different reasons - do. I believe i am justified in saying so.

Labours policy is very clear. A second referendum in all circumstances even if they win A GE and negotiate their own deal. This has been confirmed by Corbyn as recently as Sunday.

It’s been the same since their conference in 2017.

    Funny that...
Why did they only start to publicise that fact in the last month? If they'd have made it clear in 2017 they wouldn't have bombed in the recent elections- bleeding remain votes to the Lib Dems.

    Game of chicken.

    Who will swerve first?

Or non-one will swerve and there will be a big smash.

They didn’t. They have just tried more clearly to counter the misinformation. They have been restating it ever since the conference decision. The problem is the conference decision as they tend to be was pretty vague.

He said it very clearly on Ridge on Sunday on Sky. When asked if there would be a ref even on a Labour vote he said ‘yes, of course’. I don’t think he would campaign for Remain against a Labour deal but I don’t need him to. As long as he campaigns honestly and fairly and abides by whichever wins (which I think he will to be honest) then that will do me.

If he didn’t try and negotiate something different though and Leave won again then we’re left with May’s deal that no one wanted. It makes no sense to not try and better it before putting it back to the people.

May's deal has been voted down 3 times as you say. Nobody wants that deal, so I think its safe to say its dead now.

I don't see how Corbyn can suggest he wants to better the deal while he supports leaving anyway, despite the Labour membership unanimously supporting remain. That in itself contradicts. And his past comments just don't make a great deal of sense to me. Jobs first Brexit, A customs union. I'm not sure if they are or aren't supporting freedom of movement now or do want to be in A or THE single market.

It just isn't clear to me at all.

The UK govt for the last 40 yrs do not spend large amounts of money on regeneration. The don’t care about the regions, or the poor or disadvantaged.

Interesting article last week regarding EU money being handed back because the UK govt haven’t got round to spending it. This is money given to us specifically to help alleviate child poverty.

Just let that sink in; the EU hands out money to member states to alleviate child poverty and our caring govt can’t pull it’s finger out to spend that money so have to hand it back.

So would they have invested oop north? Really? I can’t believe anyone would believe they would.
Bear in mind our new prime minister’s election pledge was further tax cuts for the rich, what do you think he wants to give you and I?

The then-Tory government reduced their spending in the Barnsley area once we were awarded EEC funding for regeneration after the pits closed.

The current-Tory government has failed to apply for EU funding to help those hit by closure of large employers.

They won't do anything unless they can make money out of it.

Couldn't agree more. This is my biggest worry with Brexit. Taking care of our own business has been something we have struggled at irrespective of teh EU.

News for you mate, Barnsley has been getting ‘mullered’ for a good few years now. The Brexit campaigners unfortunately managed to persuade many locally that the blame and our problems lie within the EU and to get out is the only answer.
