Bit of a shame really. Always found it a little over rated Nandos for what it is but people seem to love it. Adding one into town centre will just put more strain on some of the decent independent restaurants around, I am still annoyed that grill pit went as I always liked it there.

I agree with Nandos, been a couple of times and it's been ok. But I disagree with grill pit I thought it was terrible, once had fajitas got a tiny portion of chicken and it cost me £14 never went back.

Nandos is not my bag, overpriced. Good news though, shows businesses see Barnsley as worth investing in.

This is great news however my concerns over the town centre development are that a lot of people will still chose to label the town a **** hole because we have some undesirables in and around the town!!

Listening to what some people think of the new market gives me the impression that ‘some’ would much prefer we had the old concrete jungle still in tact!! Well guess what? It’s 2019......embrace the change and enjoy out town for what it is, hard working people who wear there hearts on there sleeves!!

I have 2 young kids and I for one will be fully behind the idea to shop locally more, people love to say that no one as any money these days......wrong!! There’s sod all to spend your hard earned wage on hence why people go to Meadowhall or Leeds.

This is what Barnsley needs to fetch us back in line with other places up north

Fantastic news for the town. Whether you like Nando's or not, it's irrelevant. Nando's will guarantee footfall in the town centre every day/night and that's just what it needs. Would be great to see some other big chains sign up.

Sure. Its a mass production chain that focuses on maximising margin while selling average to poor quality food that is commonly frozen.

If eating frozen food made a million miles away is your thing, and you think chicken and chips with a modest amount of marinade is your thing, each to their own.

Personally I prefer independents and restaurants that try and care about the calibre of the food they are selling. Nando's isn't one of them.

Fair comment, a think for £15 for what I get is good value for money personally.

I’ve been many times a can honestly say I’ve never had a bad meal.

Most importantly it’s a well known name coming to the town which will create good numbers visiting.

For this new market and town centre project to work the people of Barnsley have to believe in it too

£15 seems a lot for chicken and chips. Daft as it sounds, KFC is actually much better value and not far off the same standard. Neither would be anywhere near my choice for eating out, but i'm very aware Barnsley town centre is very limited. I'm sure it will be pretty busy. But I can get a better fresher cheaper meal from a local independent, and that's in London. So imagine the profit margins Nando's are applying to frozen pre made food.

As much as I do like a cheeky Nando’s, I think they should be left to large shopping outlets. I would much rather see local independent restaurants opening

I disagree. Not about Nandos, I think it's overrated, but we desperately need more restaurants. The more you have the more people come out to eat in the town centre and the better other restaurants will do. Obviously, there's a saturation point, but we're miles away from that. Never known such a big town with so few restaurants. It's not like people of Barnsley don't like going out to eat, some of the local gastro style pubs are heaving, but Barnsley town centre is dead.
