What a bombshell to drop on supporters the day before season starts. 'Only sell players with a year to go on their contract.'.......a load of old ******** Barnsley CEO. Can't believe owt that comes out of Oakwell before and nowt has changed...a bit p_ssed off.!
No that’s wrong. The directors have said that if a player has only one year left on his contract and is not willing to sign an extension then he will be sold. Which I agree with. However - if a bid comes in for players with more than one year - and that bid is too good to turn down - then of course the club should sell. Three Red Lines. 1) Don’t sell to business competitors - Leeds or Sheffield clubs. 2) Always get the best price for a player. 3) Don’t sell in January if the club is in the middle of a relegation or promotion battle.
I would add "Have a decent replacement to come in" to that. Its all well and good selling but it only becomes decent if we have a good replacement. If our coach has asked for a certain type of player and doesnt mind losing our top scorer ....then ok.
Let's be completely honest here, £4million + for a player who was alright during the last Championship campaign IS good business. Yes he was good last season in League one but that doesn't mean for a second that he'll be good enough this season in the Championship. £3.3 million pound profit for him is good business and I fully expect a suitable replacement who DS actually wants to be purchased. You can talk about the timing being poor but that's the case for most teams. Take Lowe yesterday at Pompy - best player sold 2 days before it all kicks off. It would've been very surprising to see Moore start tomorrow as we know he's not fully fit. Let's not overreact to this news , we've been expecting it all Summer long and clearly he wants to go. Time to move on!
Can't help my gut reaction but think Bradshaw might roll up on loan the talk of Kone might be a smoke screen.
I have always had a lot of respect for Mick McCarthy. He is usually a good judge of a player. He didn't say in as many words that he didn't fancy Moore when he played for Mick at Ipswich, but given Kieffers game time there, (eleven appearances/ no goals,) you can only assume he didn't think he was fully up to required Championship standard. I've been at Cannon Hall today and was told by one of the gardeners that Moore had joined Wigan for £4 million. Whilst not perfect timing, I have to say I was not shocked , as I don't think he would have been a regular starter for us this season. We have to hope that Daniel Stendel doesn't get fed up of the Clubs policy of selling our more valuable assets and trust that the Board have a quality replacement to fill Moores position, hopefully in time for the Sheffield Wednesday game.
1) Those don't seem business competitors to me, but emotional competitors. I would rather we don't sell to direct competition, say for example other teams in a relegation scrap, such as when we sold McDonald to Hull while fighting them, or sent Moncur to Luton. 2) Well, yeah, that's pretty obvious, but more of a general aim. 3) I would say, only sell if we have a proper replacement lined up. Don't sell without filling the gap.
If Moore is such as inept as some seem to indicate why the he'll are Wigan willing to spend 4 million on him? Finding excuses for us letting him go so as to soften the blow?
Don't think that not having Moore will be the problem tomorrow,it will be defending down our left side
I liked Moore in league one , he got into to teams and he was a Thorne in their sides . IMHO I think 4 million is good money for him , he didn’t play well in the Championship for Ipswich or us but that doesn’t mean he’ll never cut it in the championship . Wigan have taken a gamble with that much money imo and it could or could not work out for them . I personally don’t think Moore fits into Daniels way of playing and I think this will have been discussed with the player, Board and Manager. He will have been another option for Daniel but I guess Moore would have wanted almost Guaranteed selection and I don’t think the way Daniel sets up would have given him that .
Nudger with the most sensible post in the thread... what a day Agree with this completely mate but we defo need 2-3 new signings now. Invest that 4 million in those 3 players
I don't know, even the Ipswich fans are pissing themselves, Wigan aren't overly thrilled on their forum either.
Scowen never got sold his contract expired and left for free. If we hadn't have sold winnall(who forced a move) and conor (who wanted to leave) they would have left for free when their contracts expired at the end of the season. Cryne said he regretted selling Robert's.....
